Thames Valley University / London

k-dirt

Any experiences on Thames Valley Universitys (TVU) LL.M program, especially on LL.M in international banking and finance law?

In the Guardians list of 2011, TVUs law faculty was ranked 30th in the UK and its overall scores were well above average in many categories. Also the banking and finance courses offered by the faculty as well as the campus location seem attractive at least on paper, not to mention the lower-than-usual TOEFL requirements (90/120 IBT).

However, TVU does not seem to do that well in other university rankings and even the faculty of law is sometimes ranked really low (The Complete University Guide, for example). In addition, according to brief Google searches, it seems that TVU has at least had some financial problems in the near past.

As TVUs LLM costs around £9000, any information regarding it would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't even bother applying if I were you. League tables might not be the best place to pick a university out from, but even so I wouldn't apply to such lowly ranked universities. League tables might be biased and all that, but if a university is so far below others, there's probably a good underlying reason for that... and paying 9,000 quid for something with questionable reputation does not seem such a good idea.

Lower-than-usual language requirements are already an indication of what you can expect: lower-than-usual quality, lower-than-usual teaching standards, lower-than-usual facilities
