After being accepted at Manchester, Edinburgh and QM, I was more than happy with the idea of making the right decisión chosing Edinburgh over the other two. I guess I've already explained my situation on this board so, pardon me if I'm not doing it again. Basically, Edinburgh's LLM looked like the most suitable programme for me and I was decided to go there.
Well, I've had a meeting with my PhD tutor this week. He will be responsible for directing my PhD dissertation after completing my IP LLM and (I hope so) probably my PhD thesis in a couple of years forward.
As some of the most preeminent Spanish Commercial Law profesors I know, he was trained in Germany after his LLB. During our informal chat he suggested me to choose QM over any other of my UK options because after the Max Planck Institute QM is generally regarded as the second place for IP in Europe.
Anyone sharing this thought?
Thanks in advance!!
QM if not Max Planck Institute?

Hi again!
Too bad nobody shared his/her views yet. Come on, pals!
I should say that I think my PhD tutor has an argument on this but would be great to know your thoughts too!!
Thanks!

I'd argue that if you're set in going on to complete a PhD, then where you completed your LL.M will become less significant than where you did your PhD and what the title of your thesis is - it's a four year undertaking to complete your PhD afterall. Therefore you should consider which LL.M programme fits most with your interest and passion. Sounds like Edinburgh fits that bill.
I'm also interested to know by what measurement your PhD tutor is making that judgement call? Is he suggesting that he'd not tutor you if you don't go to London? And why not get a PhD from Max Planck or QM and an Edinburgh LL.M or vice-versa even?!

"Is he suggesting that he'd not tutor you if you don't go to London?"
Not at all, Colin. That won't be fair. I think he's trying to help but maybe in a way I cannot understand yet...
He knows I don't speak German and cannot afford to go to the Max Planck Institute by my own (which means without a scholarship), so he just pointed me that maybe I would like to reconsider my first option. I cannot tell you why. Maybe he always recommends London to all his non-German speaker PhD students. Maybe he simply believes London is the place for IP in Europe if you can't go to Germany. I don't know...
What I do know is that I'd like to focus on copyright and its relationships with new technologies, and the UK is not a bad place for that. So, I will stick to my guns...
"And why not get a PhD from Max Planck or QM and an Edinburgh LL.M or vice-versa even?!"
Because and for several reasons I have decided to get my PhD in Spain already. I'd love to but, honestly, I can't.
Thanks for your input, Colin. It's warmly appreciated.
