Can someone tell me usually how long after the button disappears, you are supposed to hear a decision from them?
I applied for the BCL last year, where the button theory ran rampant throughout the forum (I was eventually rejected). As a preface, this is not to cause anxiety to anyone. We are all overly anxious as it is. But this is my experience from applying last year and going through the Oxford application process in the context of the BCL
From my experience last year, people whose buttons disappeared received news shortly after. In my case, my button was still there when others had reported theirs disappearing. Offers were eventually given in masses whilst I was still in limbo. After a couple of days from when offers were given out, my button finally disappeared on a Friday and an automated rejection email was sent to me on a Saturday.
Now, I was very sceptical of the whole button theory but one can discern a trend that I'm sure some of you already know. A button disappearing typically means a decision has been made (rejection or offer). This is when the Oxford application process differs from that of Cambridge. Offers are always given out first, followed by bulk rejections. Thus, in my case last year, I, along with many others, all received our automated rejections once offers were given out 2-3 days before. Of course, there are also those who got waitlisted. HOWEVER, I've also seen people receiving offers/waitlisted even when their buttons are still up, hence my scepticism as to the reliability of this theory. Nevertheless, it still shows an indication of some movements once the button disappeared.
I know I just reported that my button disappeared but I'm not that hopeful about my chances considering my application last year is quite similar to my application this year but who knows! The takeaway from this is that don't panic if your button is still there! Most importantly, we have some assurance now that we are all going to hear something about the decisions in the imminent future (good or bad) so good luck and all the best everyone <3
