Hi everyone, I'm from China. I have been working in a law firm here in Shanghai for nearly 3 years. I applied for 2014-2015LLM late last year. I just got rejected by UCL and rejected earlier by KCL(so sad..but I really cannot figure out why). Now I am struggling between the offer of Durham and Bristol, both commercial law. Well...in China, most I people I turn for advice prefer Durham more than Bristol. I would like to here more voice from the world. Can anyone share with me your ideas on this? I really appreciate your time and help. Really need help..
Thanks!

Hey rubyrain1028,
First of all congratulations on getting admitted to Durham and Bristol! They are both good schools.
First of all I would consider whether you really want to do an LL.M at either of these schools considering how you would rather have enrolled at King's. If you still want to go for it, I'd choose Durham over Bristol anytime. My cousin did his LL.M at Durham and he loved it. It is a great school, in a rather small town where student life is at its best.
But it depends on the specialisation you wish to pursue..Does one of the schools offer something the other does not?
Good luck!

Thank you so much for your advice! A few months ago, after I was brain-washed by one of my friends who came back with LLM of UCL , I really want to pursue LLM in London, the biggest city in UK. So I thought maybe I would accept QMUL if UCL and KCL rejected me. However, deep down inside, I feel it doesn't matter whether I am in a modern and big city so both Durham and Bristol will be fine with me.
Now I'm struggling because I don't know if Bristol-the city means having more opportunities rather than Durham and life there will be more interesting?
Well, I think your cousin's comments means a lot to me when I am making my decision. Does he have any idea on Bristol?
Thank you again.
GOOD LUCK too!

I've been to the city of Bristol a few times, its a great city, so far as I know there's a vibrant student life and its not far from London either. I would say Bristol is slightly more lively than Durham, but I haven't been to Durham... Ultimately they are both very good universities and very good cities.

Hi Ruby,
Well done on your LLM offers. I would personally pick Bristol over Durham. I think Bristol might be more well-known internationally/in China and the city itself is very lively. You would be much closer to London if you picked Bristol and in terms of course quality, I would say both institutions are on par. The biggest difference comes down to location: Durham is very quiet (Newcastle is the closest big city) with a small high street for shopping. Bristol has more going on and feels like a mini London for me.
Thanks!</blockquote>

Hey! Thank you for your advice!
I have made my decision that I will go to Durham after widely asking for opinions and advice. One of my British peers who come from London said Durham, the small town with authentic British lfestyle and traditional campus life, would be better since this is the first time I live in UK. So... I have already paid my deposit. Hope I will enjoy my time there.
Also, good luck to you!!

Hey!Thanks for your honest advice. Well...I've been living in a big city for my entire life, so I am a little excied about going to a small town where I can enjoy a traditional British campus life, according to one of my peers from London. So I chose Durham and paid my deposit a few days ago. Anyway, thank you and good luck to you on your applications.
