Manchester v Edinburagh

Heylo

I am looking to study mathematics at either Edinburgh or Manchester.

Was wondering what you think would be best.

Looking for good sports and nightlife aswell.

I am not quite sure If it is the best place to ask this question. This is a forum for the lawyers who are not too good at maths, believe me :D

I do not know to much about the mathematics faculties at those universities, but I think that Edinburgh is much nicer city.

Best of luck!

I only wish I knew anything about math... however, if I can give you a hint, try looking at the good university guide (timesonline), the guardian guide or the complete university guide (independent)... this are mostly for undergraduate studies, but they can give you a direction on where to look...

yes naija...you being from Manchester would agrue in that direction. But i didn't see any point going to manchester...nothing different to offer...its living on its old reputation...you should be glad its suriving on what it has built up in the last so many years. And as I have stated earlier...you may be right in your prespective...But in my prespective...i would not prefer manchester....not after knowing the fact...that half my college and another half of my friends...everyone who has applied has received an offer from Manchester....i don't want to go to a super crowded classs...
As you have stated...the classes may be small untill last year...but i guess this year manchester is overloading itself with students...!
(Personally....i think in this financial crisis...Manchester is out of funds...so the more students they admitt this year the more money they get...so more funds in their bag...But to be true...this inference may be completely wrong also...i don't have any proof to give you in this regard...)

Are you by any chance already a staff member of UoM...becoz the way you are defending it....looks like you have been trying to save the dying manchester's reputation...!

Answering your question....Well...I have had 9 offers...but still waiting for UCL and QMUL...! but I have sent my rejection letters to Manchester, Kent, NTU, Glasgow, Birmingham. SOAS...!
Still thinking about Nottingham, City and Aberdeen...!

Well this is for Manchester supporters ....!
I had been arguing that Manchester comes close to Kent in its ranking...!
Now the New Complete University Guide ranks Manchester at 22nd and Kent at 23rd place..!
And Glasgow has been upgraded to the 6th place! whereas, Edinburgh is come down to 10th place

I was telling you that Manchester is falling in its standards...And I think I was partially right about it.
