LLM International Commercial Law

llmomw

Hi,

First of all thank you to anyone who might help me to clear any misunderstanding I might have with regards to the LLM (Specialism International Commercial Law) at Kent.

I have been looking at the list of modules provided and there seem to be rather few modules which relates purely to commercial law.

So far I have only found international business transactions and international finances regulation. It is my understanding that these two modules only make 20 ECTS credit and I am required to complete 90 ECTS credit to be awarded an LLM by Kent.

Furthermore, I need to take 3 modules in each semester i.e. 6 modules over the course of the LLM.

Could anyone at Kent or even better on the LLM International Commercial Law provide me with some further information and/or clarify my understanding of the LLM at Kent.

Any suggestion as to other LLM provider within London with a good commercial/corporate course is welcome.

Hi,

I am not studying or have ever studied at Kent, but, I just had a look on the international commercial law llm site, indeed lots of the modules outlined on the site are not relevant BUT at the top of the module list it states that:
'The following modules are indicative of those offered on this programme'
Hence, I assume that this list is simply an indication and nothing more; it is not an exhaustive list of all the modules you can choose.

In respect to your second question - there are several strong LLM courses in the UK, and especially in London, if you could share your credentials I think we would be able to give you a more precise response.

Bit of background information to clear things up.

Studied at a poly university and obtained a 2.1. I then studied for the BPTC and was awarded a very competent. Did my pupillage in a commonwealth country and practised at the bar for a year.

My practice was a mix one, criminal and civil law. I found myself more at ease with advisory work and that is why I would like to study for a commercial/corporate llm.

I am thinking that having an llm might help me in securing a training contract or QLTS sponsorship with a law firm. Yes I am thinking of switching to the solicitor's roll.

Thank you
