We have recently got our results for the past semester. I go to the University of Leiecter. I am studying an LLM in International Commercial Law. The mark ranking are as follows:
PASS = 50-59, MERIT = 60-69, DISTINCTION = 70-100
The degree classification will either specify:
PASS
PASS with MERIT
PASS with DISTINCTION
My marks are 57,57,58,62,65,65,66,67
The University handbook specifies that you require 6 MERITS + 1 MERIT in the dissertation to receive a degree classification of PASS with MERIT. I have 5 MERITS and possibly will receive an upper MERIT in my dissertation. I have 1 PASS which is close to a MERIT. In this situation, I would clearly be in the MERIT range. However, other students have argued that I would just end up with a degree classification of PASS for only having 5 merits during the semester. But my dissertation will clearly be in the MERIT range.
Alternatively, the handbook says that a person having 4 DISTINCTIONS and 1 MERIT in the semester needs to have a DISTINCTION in the final dissertation in order to recieve an overall degree classification of a PASS with DISTINCTION. If you receive a mark lower than a DISTINCTION in the dissertation, then you will receive a degree classification as just a PASS.
