LLb from UK

Hi people, my name is Anshul kalra. I graduated( b.com) from bombay this year. I aspire to become a lawyer. However, currently, I am facing a dilemna regarding the LLb I wish to pursue. I applied to few of the Uk universities last year and managed to get a place at kings college, london for this academic year. I have got the few quries which I would wish anyone of you to answer:

Being an international student, I do not have enough knowledge on the job prospects after this degree, so what would be your take on this?

Secondly, I have thought that after completing my LLb from kings, I would take an LPc course to become a solicitor. Now do you think It would be feasible for me to spend so much at a strech, and expect an impressive return?

Thirdly, After completing my studies, say after starting a professional life, If I have to return to my country then would I be getting jobs in the Indian law firms? Also, I have enquired that the jurisdiction of India and the Uk is almost similar, so does it makes easier for the Indian students to work in both the countries?

Few of my friends are telling me that I should do LLb from India and take the masters degree from the UK, work there for few years and come back to India. I am in two minds because I have gotten into such a great college which supposedly offers a promising future and the quality of education is far better than any of the Indian institutes. Secondly, the cost of education in India is one-tenth of the cost of education in London, so sometimes I feel that India is a better option in terms of costs and returns.

I await your response and hope that your advise would help me to choose the best career option.

Kings is a great law school for LLM. I think it depends on how much you really wish to live and practice in the UK.

Kings has a wonderful reputation in the UK (and overseas) so this shouldn't be you main worry.

Good luck.

Go ahead with King's. Just dont have any second thoughts. In the current year it has been ranked 4th in U.K. for LL.M. and 24th globally. It'll benefit you greatly if you do your LL.B. from King's and even greater if you do LL.M. thereafter. Even i'm going for my Master's at King's.

All the best!!

Hey! I am facing a very similar dilemma..I have a degree in Politics from Delhi University. I have a few offers from LLB in UK, but I am certain I want to come back to India.. Would I be able to find employment in a good Indian law firm? I plan on doing Litigation..Since your post is dated 2008 can I ask you what you finally chose? KCL or Indian Law? And if KCL then do you still plan on coming back?
Thanks.

So if i agn go to london fr 3 years wud i be able to practise as a lawyer the day i gt my degree.
As i jst got to knw that i need to spend 1 year in doing LPC to work in UK.I dnt find it sensible to spend 4 years fr an LLB

Hi,
So did you go and how was it?
I am presently in the same scenario and need help.
Please reply -I am really hoping for a reply because this is the only place where I finally discovered someone interested in LLB and not a LLM from the UK.
Fingers crossed
