Kings College London MA in Global Ethics and Human Value or SOAS LLM

Hi all,

Kings College London MA in Global Ethics and Human Value or SOAS LLM. Naturally, I would go for SOAS because it's a proper Law degree but as absurd as this may sound, and having in mind that employers don't focus on reputation alone anymore, Prestige is the most important thing to me. While SOAS is always slept on, Kings is on the same level as UCL and LSE.

What program will put me in the best possible position for a career in academia and politics.

I know there's no right or wrong answer. One mans treasure is another mans trash. I will just appreciate suggestions from people.

I'm not sure that I completely agree with your ranking- I would rank LSE, UCL and Kings in that order. LSE is known around the world in a way that Kings just isn't. SOAS is not as famous for law, I agree, but it is prestigious in its own area. SOAS could make sense if you're working on an area of law that deals with Asia, for example. Maybe there is a potential thesis supervisor at SOAS who could help you in an obscure area or something... In terms of general reputation, it might not be famous but people that know SOAS will understand the quality. For law, Kings would rank ahead of SOAS but you wouldn't be doing a law degree there anyway....In your position, I would choose the course that interests you and suits your career goals. Based on my own career ambitions, I would definitely prefer an LLM because it's an additional degree in the study of law. If you are interested in academia, an LLM is better because you can continue towards SJD/PhD. It's not an obvious decision....Good luck!
