I did my graduate study in England a long time ago, but not at Kent. My impression since that has always been that Kent is a fine university, and that for those who do not like big cities it would provide a memorable campus life. Its latest LAW RAE record is also impressive, and I am sure that is "critical approach" would be a challenge for those seek something other than just "brand names"!

I am sorry for a slip: the latter part of my last sentence should read: "...and I am sure that its "critical approach" would be a challenge for those who seek something other than just 'brand names'!".

thanks for the reply...I would realli not mind having a break from the city, but then there is extra accomodation costs etc. but kent campus does look like a cool place to spend a year, and u r right they have been progressing table-wise particularly in research.
If anyone else has been to Kent, studied there or has more info please feel free to reply....any insight is welcome...also on birkbeck and QMUL.
cheers

any1 else going 2 throw in their 2 cents.............????

I have heard that Bircbeck is not a good place. It is for working mature lawyers and the range of subjects there is too short and all of them are connected with social and historical aspects of law, but not with practice.
And Kent is also not from the "Premier Leage". It is easier to get place where than in Queen Mary. And in Russia Queen Mary is famous and University of London is also a good brand.

Ive been accepted for an LLM in criminal justice. Ive been to the University and spoken to the Prof as well. The Uni seems impressive... also extremely student friendly. That seems to be the best part of it all

thanks for the insight. Another question, how do you think Kent is percieved by others, as to their reputation?
I know it is no oxford or cambridge, but is its reputation sufficient enough to be held in high esteem when making job applications? in other words what r the job prospects like?

Ive got mixed reviews about Kent. It is very well known for its research facilities. About the job prospects I dont have any clear idea. Why dont u contact Kent directly and ask them. They can give u the exact information ure looking for

hey there, i actallu am in a similar situation, i've been offered an mres place and LLm at Kent. They are both really good!
I did my undergraduate at kent and i loved every minute of it, which is why im probs gonna do my LLm there. The professors are world class, and is higher than oxford for research in Law.
most employers are more than aware of Kents status, and from experiance value it debatably in higher esteem than most! remember most employers did not themselves go to so called premier league university, but acknowledge that kent is definately in that league just below, (or argueably in light of their RAE scores in the same ring)
I highly reccoment the Law School there, and its critical approach is sooooooooooo...ooooo unique i garuntee you will feel you have gained a higher quality education!

UK perspective: Kent and QM are about the same in terms of reputation,
in fact I can see many employers with an industrial bend to
law actually preferring Kent. Birbeck is not really a full-time studying place. It is one step above open university or city lit, it offers a part-time
Degree programmes for older people who have professional experience but not degree in the same field.
Surprised that QM is recognised in russia as worked a lot with emerging markets and anything beyond OX, Cam and LSE is a strentch. In fact many professionals have never heard about KCL and UCL and ...shock, horror....even LSE.

I know a boy from Russia, who studied 1 year at Guildhall( now Metropolitan) and was very proud of it, he wrote a book about mergers and acquesitions of companies in Europe and put this information into a title page as an advertising and you say that it is one of the worst universites in England, so I will be a great laywer :), but QM is realy well-known in Russia, they visited my University, there were plans to create a double master degree in law between QM and MGIMO, negotiations were held but, I don not know why this project failed.

İs there anyone who can tell me whether there is in-sessional english language course for me given that I got 6.5 with the lowest 6 in listening. They require 7 with the lowest 6. A slight difference.

Hi! I have done my undergraduate law degree at Kent. Let me tell you that if you actually decide to go there, you will certainly not regret it. Teaching quality is high, and it is certainly not the typical traditional law-school type. The teachers aim to teach students how to think critically, to get out of the law textbook and actually observe the real impact and prespective of law. It is a more research based university however, that's why more importance is given to essays and the ideas that students can derive from particular law topics. Friends that have studied there for the LLM programme are very much satisfied.
Also I can tell you that Kent has a great reputation in other European countries as well. I am from Cyprus and here employers that I have met consider it among the best in the UK.
