international law in the U.K.

george k.

if one wanted to study the classic aspects of public international law in the U.K. which university you would recommend bearing in mind that I am a E.U. citizen from a peripheral country(Greece) with a very considerable command of the English language and 6.98 grade in the first degree which is a two-two but not exactly because it is difficult to achieve high marks in law in Greece. Thank you.

Cambridge in the UK is arguably one of the best for int'l law along with NYU in the US. Altho', it is not very clear what you mean by 'classic aspects' - does that mean customary international law?

Thank you Nirvana. I think Cambridge is too high-flyer for my grades I am aiming to something more modest. As for classic aspects I mean the more traditional elements of doctrine as opposed to environmental aspects for example.

hey george. have u considered Leiden in the Netherlands. I'm Australian but with a Greek father, and I hold EU citizenship. I'm going to Leiden this year for the LLM in International Law. EU students also get the home fee so if paying for the very high tuition fees is going to be a problem Leiden is a good choice. Not to mention its excellent reputation etc etc. You say it is hard to get good law marks in Greece - do you get a score out of 100 for your degree? What is considered a good "rank" or "score"?

Thank you, illy-actually my score is not bad but about 7.2-7.8/10 is a very respectable score to say the least. The course in Leiden is in English in its totality I think, is not it?

george - yes the Leiden course is entirely in English, and I think that is the case with most of the LLM courses offered there, as well as at many other Dutch and Belgian universities. Good luck with all your applications and if you happen to choose Leiden I may see you there!
