Hey guys,
I'm new here, so I don't know if anyone has already asked the following questions before or not, but allow me to fire away by simply introducing myself:
I currently am an undergraduate student at a Canadian University: York University, aiming to graduate soon. At the time being, I am enrolled in an honours degree program majoring in Economics and minoring in Business. Hereby, through posting this board, I simply want to acquire some information on the law degrees you would believe I could suit best for in UK. I would love to achieve my dream of becoming a lawyer in UK after meeting my already set graduation objective; thus, please help me and guide me to get there accordingly.
Initially I would like to gain some basic knowledge about what degrees I am eligible to pursue in law. I understand that some law programs require students to have a previous bachelors degree in law; however, I would like to know which programs I could apply to without studying for four more years in law related majors at an undergraduate level. Please accept my apologies in advance as this inquiry may be a bother, but as an a Economics student I do not know much about graduate degrees available in this niche. I am hoping to achieve my dreams of becoming a lawyer via your assistance; thus, please guide me towards a programme that I am eligible to pursue. So far, based on the research I have done myself, I know that there are GDL programmes for non-law majors which lead to LPCs and etc. However, what is the main difference between a LL.B. programme and a GDL? Would I be at a disadvantage if I apply for a job after acquiring GDL followed by a LPC rather than just simply going for a LL.B.?
Also lets say that I manage to get my LPC degree; would I be able to practice law just like an individual holding a LL.B. degree? I mean, would there be more credit given to an individual holding a LL.B. in comparison to a solicitor holding a LPC? On another note, would I also be able to pursue a LL.M. degree if I manage to get a LPC?
Secondly, please inform me about the GPA requirements in order to be accepted as well. I simply do not get the A-level system that universities ask for in UK. Accept my apologies for not being able to understand the system. I know that this matter has a factor of simplicity to itself, but I suppose I cannot wrap my mind around it easily. Please enlighten me thoroughly.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
