Hi all,

If you coming to study law in London (LLB, LLM or whatever) and want an introduction to the English legal system to get you up and running, then this may be for you. I came to London to study law as a foreign student from South Africa in 2004 and therefore have recently been through the English system.

I have obtained a first class LLB degree from City University in London and a first class LLM degree from the London School of Economics. I will be starting a training contract at a major City Law firm shortly. I can also give practical advice on obtaining a training contract in London.

I am well qualified to give guidance on the fundamentals of English law and how to approch studying law in the UK to get the most out of it. This is especially relevant for those coming from civil law jurisdictions, as the concepts of equity and trusts may be foreign to you. Indeed, those from all jurisdictions would find this useful.

I plan to run an introductory workshop in July of 2008 with the following objectives (dates of the workshop will be confirmed subject to demand):

1. To give an introduction to the English legal system and how all the different  property and personal rights tie in together (Torts, Contract, Restitution and Equitable rights)

2. To provide a model on taking case notes and effectively reading English case law.

3. The sources of English law and their hierachy.

4.  Tips on studying English law in terms of achieving your academic goals (such as passing, getting a first or a second)

5. Advice on the training contract process for those interested and what the big City Law firms look for in an application.
