I am 25 and have just started a PhD in Law at the University of Manchester with my dissertation focusing on project finance laws and utility regulations in developing countries. With no prior background in law (degrees in business and economics with work experience in project finance), I am contemplating taking a GDL/CPE part-time during my PhD. However, GDL is expensive and workload is substantial given my research commitment (20 hours a week, am i right?). Do you think having the GDL would truly improve my application for a training contract or should I focus on my thesis and do GDL and then LPC (i am already 25...) afterwards in case I secure the training contract?
