Hey everyone,
I'm from the Netherlands, did an LLB at the Uni of Amsterdam. I've got accepted to the programme in Finance Law at the Uni of Southampton and the programme in Corporate and Financial Law at Glasgow, starting sept/oct 2014.
I could really use some help, as I am doubting which LLM I should choose.
Has anyone here done/know someone who has done an LLM in Finance Law at the university of Southampton?
The specialized focus of the programme appeals to me very much, but as it is highly based upon the book ''The law of Finance'' of Alastair Hudson, at the same time I'm afraid that it will be a bit too ''one-dimensional''.
In regard to the programme in Glasgow, it's the other way around; this programme seems to be the safer choice, meaning that it seems to be more general, although the courses still appeal to me. But I think it won't dive into a subject as Derivatives for example. I dont think I will have the opportunity as I have it now, to submerge myself in a specialist area later on. Its now or never in that regard..
What do you guys think? Has anyone got experience with one of these two programmes?
Would really help me out, thanks in advance for your help,
Liliana

I apologize if my post if coming late.
I am almost done with my LLM in Corporate and Financial Law at Glasgow. The course is quite rich and is very focused on the areas you have mentioned. We did derivatives, structured finance, securitization, bonds, and so many other topics.
We also got to learn the regulatory aspects of how the markets are controlled.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for your reply! The day after I accepted the offer of the llm in southampton, I received an email that the programme is cancelled! Ridiculous!
In the end Im actually happy this happened, because I am very happy that Im going to do the llm in corporate and financial law in Scotland. It was a blessing in disguise I guess.
Thanks very much, your comment on the programme outlines again that its a good choice!! I heard only good stuff about this llm.
I was wondering; are you an international student? And if so, how did you get accomodation (its late and my english is failing), in other words, did you do everything for the accomodation from your homecountry, or did you do it over there in Glasgow?
Thanks!!

Yes I am an international student. I got my accommodation few days after I came to Glasgow. I couldn't find a suitable place from my country before coming,so I had to stay in a student hostel for almost a week after I arrived. But I have some friends who were able to find a place before they arrived
In case you are unable to find a place, you may want to check out this student hostel. It is like 2 minutes walk from the University. I stayed there last year when I came : http://homepage.ntlworld.com/williamgilles/
Don't hesitate to ask me anything.

Thank you for your reply!
Do you know how your friends got their accommodation before they arrived? Im not very fond of the idea of having to spend a week in a hostel, but if there's no other way I'll have to.. How did you find your accommodation while you were staying at the hostel?
Thanks for the website!

Hi,
I found mine through Gumtree, and I have a friend who found hers through the Student Representative Website. You can have a look at the websites :http://www.glasgowstudent.net/services/flatshare/view/
