Good afternoon all,
Wondered if anyone could assist as it seems my attempts to email postgrad law enquiries for an answer are not getting any response.
I hold a GDL (Commendation) which I then upgraded to an LLB via two extra modules (which you can do at BPP). and gained a 2:1. Original degree was a 2:1 in medical sciences from nottingham.
I then undertook a year's paralegalling in litigation 9mostly commercial, plus some legal aid), before going on to complete the BPTC with a VC. I then did an internship for two months for my jurisdiction's Attorney General, and am now working for an MP.
Am interested in doing an LLM in the UK but don't seem to be able to get an answer as to whether or not I'd be able to apply, since the minimum req where I'm looking is a 2:1 law degree - I don't have the traditional three year LLB.
Any thoughts/advice/comments? As stated, no one seems to want to reply to my emails.
Thanks for reading :)

Hi,
I would recommend you to apply anyway. Most academic institutions in the UK allow rare cases of non-LLB students for their LLM programmes.
Don't wait for their reply, just apply and I believe that they'll consider your special academic experience.
Good luck!

Obviously, this is just my opinion and I don't speak for any University, but I really don't think your qualifications will be a problem.
Many universities will accept non-law graduates onto some of their LLM courses, so I would be of the view that the fact that you effectively hold two undergrad degrees (one in law, despite not being a 3 year degree) would be more than enough to be accepted onto many LLM courses. Added to that, the fact that you hold a BPTC and your work experience, I honestly can't see a problem.
That said, I don't know which university you are applying to, so they may turn out to be just 'awkward' over the whole thing; I honestly can't see that happening though.
At the end of the day, you aren't going to do a three year LLB between now and completing your LLM application, so just fill in the application and send it off, you will get your definitive answer soon enough.

Cheers guys, really appreciate it - I guess there's no way to know definitively as you say, but has made me feel a bit happier that at least it's worth having a stab.
Much obliged :)
