Dear Wiebke,
I can't tell you much about the programs but I do know that studying in Durham is great. I studied there myself, last year, thanks to the erasmus-project, and it was unforgettable. It's a small lively university-city but it made a big difference to my study-curriculum.

Dear Lotte, thanks for your reply, that is just what I heard, real English college feeling, lots of student activities etc... But have you met any LLM students there? Actually I am afraid that there are not too many postgraduate students in Durham and that I do not get to interact with the undergraduates...

Hi! I also plan to study at Durham, I don't think there are not enough postgraduate students...
By the way, does anybody know which one is the better university? Durham (www.dur.ac.uk/) or Duke (http://www.duke.edu)? There seem to be two, but on this site I think there is just the first one.
thnx, reinhard

There are two Durhams. Duke University is not located in Durham, Britain, but in Durham, North Carolina, USA!

I've only heard excellent things about Durham, I have a friend currently studying on the LLM there and he loves it. Durham is a small but perfectly-formed University town, so if its your first place of study in the UK then you'll find it a good study environment.
Good luck to all of you with ur applications!

Dear Nikolas - Thanks for your reply, I should have realized that the other university is in the US.
Dear Cat - Wow that's really good news, I didn't change my mind about going to Durham. Now I can just hope I'll get a place...
Dear Alessandro - I applied online and am about to send the necessary documents within the next week (hopefully)... But I'm just a little pressed due to the Austrian grant system, and of course I'd like to know as early as possible how they decide.
Does anybody know how difficult it might be to be admitted? I have no idea if and how the postgraduate places are restricted.
regards, reinhard

hi alessandro -
it's always good to know you're not alone with your problems :-)
I don't know if I'll already know something in an month, so there you seem to be luckier than I.
Which program do you apply for?
ciao, reinhard

I recently graduated from the LLM programme at Durham specialising in International Trade and Commercial Law. The course was superb and the teaching quality could not be matched. I particularly recommend taking the modules in Commercial Fraud which covers areas such as money laundering.
Durham itself if a fantastic place to live, if a bit on the quiet side, but Newcastle is 10 minutes on the train if you need to get away into a big city.
Job prospects - I've just applied to law school to study for my LPC and as soon as i mentioned my LLM specialism they seemed to really warm to me and since then I was offered a place.
Hope this helps
