My field of specialisation is Criminal Law, mainly international criminal law and law and economics related to the topic.
Insofar I have offers from 4 unis, LSE, Chicago, Cambridge and Oxford (Msc. Criminology)
I sort of discarded LSE for the sake of thinking of it as the last placed amongst other things.
Knowing that, which school would you attend?

Thanks CJH
Actually for me it would be M.Jur. but I guess it would not change your perception, right?
But as to Ox I must say I have sort of slipped and made college options which I do not know if are good.... Balliol and Christ Church...
Besides That, I could not see the entire course list, but cam seems to have better options as far the subjects mentioned go...

where you planning on working afterwards... lol you are probably in a better position than me to decide - all 4 universities are well-known by the kind of people that will be reading your resume/CV
Posted Mar 11, 2009 02:28
Yes, but it is so confusing, I never imagined I would have so many options at my hand, and I am really worried that I will not make the right choice.
But thanks for the advice, and maybe you can tell me about the colleges...

No problem with Balliol and Christ Church. See also here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norrington_Table
It's based on success in undergrad teaching but I don't think the overall rating is much different for grads except for that your college isn't that important as for undergrads anyway.
Can't say much about criminology. But a colleague of mine is specializing in criminology in Oxford. She's been doing almost every program available including a Columbia LLM in between and coming back to Oxford afterwards. Though it cannot be that bad.
Good luck with your decision,
L.

Thank You!
This table would have been of so much help a few months ago! But I guess I made quite good choices inspite of it...

CrimLawyer
Out of interest, why did you think you had mad 'bad choices' college wise?!

No, not bad. I just did not have a clue about them so I was unsure.

Hey guys does anyone have any idea on which is better for Criminal Law, UCL or LSE?
Posted Mar 11, 2009 19:46
I did not even apply for UCL... I do not know about your country, but in mine LSE has a far superior rep
Posted Mar 11, 2009 19:51
Where is that if I may ask? Im from Ireland and here and in the UK people seem to consider the two (with Kings as well according to some) to be neck and neck after Oxbridge. There is no doubt LSE has a much better name recognition internationally though.

Brazil.

Ok thanks. Best of luck with your studies.
Posted Mar 11, 2009 21:22
Are you trying oxbridge as well?
Posted Mar 11, 2009 22:09
criminal justice would surely be better at UCL looking at their courses and considering jeremy bentham and all that...
dunno about pure criminal law though... do you want to be a barrister?

Yes I applied for Cambridge more in hope than expectation crimlawyer, have not got an offer or a rejection from them yet. I'm on the waiting list at the LSE and have an offer from UCL. In all three applications I have opted for criminal law/justice/procedure and jurisprudence modules because, in answer to your inquiry c-j-h, I want to become a barrister specialising in criminal law. Im glad to hear that you rate UCL highly for Criminal Justice c-j-h. Do you guys know what will happen if Cambridge offer me after I accept UCL? Can I about turn and accept Cambridge? Finally is it true that Criminal Law style courses are less popular (perhaps as it is a less profitable area of practice) and thus entry to the top colleges is made slightly easier for those who seek to specialise in them?
Posted Mar 12, 2009 15:36
I would think that the answer for the last question may be true. Not many people out there are looking forward to specialise in criminal law...
Posted Mar 12, 2009 16:36
Its very strange really. Criminal Law is so interesting, studying it is more of a pleasure than a chore. However that is just my opinion!

Well, you can't say that CPS' salaries are extremely attractive...
