Hi,

Iam an International student.I heard just doing an LLM isn't sufficient but instead one needs to do even CPE/LPE.

What is CPE/LPE?Can anyone give me some information on this?

Hi, you are right an LLM is not sufficient. The CPE allows an individual with any degree eg, BA, BSc, BS, etc... to sit the seven foundation subjects in English Law: Tort, Contract, Criminal, Constitutional & Admin, EU, Equity & Trusts. This course lasts one year. You would then take the LPC course if you wished to qualify as a solicitor or the BVC course to qualify as a Barrister. Both of these courses also last a further year. If you are a qualified lawyer from certain jurisdictions you can avoid this by doing the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT). This is an option if you are, for example, a NY Attorney.

An LLM will not allow you qualify as a lawyer in the UK but if you have studied any of the seven CPE subjects, you may gain exemptions.
