I'd only recommend doing an academic course with the College of Law if you can't get a place at a university.

Check out the website.
I do think that it is a good course to do, and having being recognised by the IBA, it might be a good career prospect, but I am not sure of it.
The course is certainly tough if you are not doing it as a full-time student. However, it is designed in such a way that it caters to part-times well as well. For the distance learning modules of the programme, you need to complete 9 units, 1 unit in every 2 or 2.5 weeks, except for the last unit, in which the date line is usually 1 month. Tasks are mainly practice based, with reports, letters and reviews forming the main bulk of them.
It is a bit different from the London External programme, who emphasises on written exams and essays. As it is mainly internet based, so I would not recommend it if you do not have access to the internet at home.

Edinburgh has several programmes from which to choose. http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/pg/taught/
I can tell you that it has an extremely dedicated staff and if your are simply looking for an LLM in international law or law generally, there are excellent choices available.
If you have more detailed questions, I am happy to answer them as I did my LLM in international law at Edinburgh.
Best of luck!
