Cardiff 2012/13

Hi I need your opinions, Im pretty sure that I could make it into Glasgow, or Aberdeen, Nottingham, but Im interested in Cardiff. Is this stupid?

The reason why I want to do a LLM is to improve my English skills, to gain experience in another country, to qualify for a top law firm in Austria. Representatives from some top law firms in Austria told me that it really doesnt matter to which university I go, as long it is in an English speaking country. Of course Cambridge and Oxford would be an advantage. (but I am just in the top 15-20% of my class so I dont think I have a chance, although I have 3 outstanding letters of recommendations and did 2 internships in New Jersey, 1 in Tunisia, and 3 in Austria )

I dont want to go do a London University because of funding. I just have a budget for this year from 20.000. (for everything).

Why I am interested in Cardiff, first of all I really like the modules (I want to do international commercial law). I think it is a big advantage that I am allowed to pick 2 courses not from commercial law.
Secondly I contacted some alumnis from the LLM programme and everybody told me just positive things. Especially that everybody is so friendly.

Furthermore I think Cardiff is a really nice place to be.

As a major reason is to improve my English (Im pretty sure you will find many mistakes in my post, sorry) I think it is also an advantage that every course is tested by an essay of 5000 words. So I wont be afraid to fail (and waste 20.000 Euro) when I have 4 exams in June, like in other school. Till know I never failed in any exams at my University in Vienna, but as I know myself if I have 4 exams in June I will sit the whole time in the library and panic, and might not enjoy the time, travel and make new friends (which is also a reason for doing the LLM).

I also contacted the admissions office, and they were very friendly, and told me that the almost never say no to Austrians, and let me understand that they also wont say no to me (with my grades).

To sum it up, I have a very good feeling about Cardiff. Something in my stomach says go there.
Do you have any opinions? Thank you.

If you like Cardiff take it. It is a good law school and if you like the feel and sound of it better follow your gut feeling.

Cardiff is respected in the UK and I can't see any disadvantages in getting the LLM from there!

English Universities are very good!!!!

You can't compare them to the Ivy league. American Universities are very good but have more money. I personally think UK Universities are very good and provide you a good education.

Cardiff has a good international position. All Russell group universities are very good!
