Hi guys,
Just looking for any information on the kind of offers cambridge make. I've been told that i'm getting one but don't know what terms, if any, will be imposed.
Do they always attach conditions? In particular, what sort of academic performance do they look for from those who are yet to complete their course of study? Finally, is it absolutely essential to meet whatever criteria they set out?
Any thoughts from those with experience would be greatly appreciated.

I can only give you advice from what I've experienced. I got the email in January and then received the official paper offer a week or two ago. They gave me three conditions: first, that I actually graduate from my current program; second, that I demonstrate financial capability; and third, that they give me a college. The due date for all of these is July 31 - which may be before the determination of financial grants...

Thanks a lot for that info, I just received a very general e-mail laying out the kind of things they 'might' require with little detail of their application to my own case.
I'm glad to hear that they may limit the academic requirements to simply graduating from one's current course of study, the other types of conditions are gratefully not of massive concern to me.
Many thanks again.
Anyone else have any ideas?

I won't lie, this post is just a flagrant attempt by me to bump this thread up the list.

lol. nice thread manipulation there! I received an offer last month but I am still unaware of the academic conditions. I think it is rare for Cambridge not to stipulate specific academic grades, and in the case of UK applicants I think they usually set the required standard either as a first or high 2:1 (67 average). By a (very) rough guide, this equates with being somewhere in the top 10-15%. I'm not sure how the conditions vary for non UK applicants though.

It's pretty much the same for Irish graduates. Know a few people who went to Cambridge and minimum final grade required was a 67 average (which was about top 10 ranking). If you are on a research degree the requirement is that you show Cambridge that you will not be registered for that University for the year you will be in England. You can do this either by graduating or applying to go off books and sending letter on.

Thanks a lot guys, i'm just hoping that they don't expect me to be able to walk on water or something.
Anyone know how strict they are about hitting those requirements on the button? I had a friend doing undergrad there who didn't meet the precise conditions they laid out & he had no problems.

The offer I got was on a first. If you get in touch with Suzanne Wade (who is really really nice) she might be able to dig out your file and tell you although this is not a great time in the faculty, still trying to sort out offers, LLM thesis due in, so she may not.

I'd be interested (& hugely relieved) to know whether they insist on exact compliance with the academic conditions. Anyone have any info/thoughts on that front?
Many thanks again

Has anyone who received offers in the past few weeks learned of the conditions yet?
I've been on to the faculty office nearly every day trying to get the details of mine but haven't obtained any further info yet. Cheers

Hi, any views in College choices? I have been offered a place in Lucy Cavendish, and would like to change it, is this possible? Where are all the LLM´s staying?
Posted May 28, 2006 22:57
Basically no it is not possible to change it. The only way is if you get funding from another college.

I had a friend who changed colleges. He had to get both the old college and the new college to approve the switch. I'll be at Kings.

It's a one in a million chance and you would need to have a very good reason. I imagine it would be easier to change from Trinity to Lucy than the other way. Albeit still not easy. The Cambridge Graduate Union Forum for applicants has a number of threads on this topic.
