Cambridge LLM - is it worth

Hiya all,

Just wondering is the LLM from Cambridge worth doing?. Is it worth spending 9 months and almost £10k in cash to have it on your CV? Will be beneficial for my career?

Hope some of you can help?

As a foreign student, I will be paying twice that amount and yet I've never questioned whether it's worth it.
Hope this provides some perspective...

I second equity darling's views.

I too will be incurring almost 20k pounds for the LLM but never thought twice about applying to Cambridge.

The truth is the quality, reputation and prestige is always going to be there; it really is up to you to make the most of your year at Cambridge. I for one can't wait to start.

I really don't see how a Cambridge LLM wouldn't be beneficial to your career if it's law you want to do.

It's not like one can buy his/her way into Cambridge... :/

You make some good points, arano. Cambridge is overpriced and probably not going to give you any more for for your money than any other decent graduate school. In fact, as others on this board have indicated (including myself), one arguably gets more attention, supervision, and smaller classes (all resulting in a better pedagogical experience) at smaller schools.
However, having said all that, when one attends Cambridge they do so in arge measure to cash in on the prestiege and resulting (and indeed lifelong) oppurtunities that this esteem provides. This prestiege opens doors at financial, legal and academic institutions. In my view, it would be foolish to pass up this oppurtunity, for doing so may very well limit for prospects in the future. And of course I agree that any place that hired based purely on the school you attended would likely be an unwelcoming one, the fact remains that every place will consider the reputation of you previously attended schools to some degree. In a competative job market, evry bit counts, and Cantab on the CV carries a good deal of weight.
Besides, you will be working just as hard at LSE or Warwick or anywhere else, really, so why not get the corresponding benefit of a more highly regarded degree?

My understanding from talking to ppl who did the LLM at few years ago is that you are largely left on your own to make of the programme what you will. If you are motivated then Cambridge will be worth whatever energy you put into the programme.
Sorry, that is probably not particularly helpful.
