Cambridge LLM 2017 - 2018 Applicants

Still #ForeverDC. Un-bloody-believable.

Doesn't look like its going to change tonight. Oh, how I hate the DC!!! #IhateDC (sorry Washington D.C.!)

Why did they keep banging on about that March 15 deadline, any time one of us asked by phone in the past, when all "decisions will have been made"? Apparently no decisions were made today!

Yes and yes. In the last years, several applicants got BOGSed later than the 15th.

Hello everyone! I would like to understand my chances of getting into Cambridge.
- I have a TOEFL score of 109. (with at least 25 in each section)
- Rank as the 4th out of 139.
- 1 year of professional experience.
Would my TOEFL score hinder my chances? since they need a 110?
Thank you!

Just for you to know - On the Cambridge LLM website it says:
"These language requirements are mandatory both as to the level of ability which must be demonstrated and the time at which proof of meeting those standards must be submitted. Applications will not be considered unless they are compliant in both these respects. Given the exceptionally large number of applications for the Cambridge LLM programme, we are not able to entertain requests for individual waivers of these requirements no matter how compelling the circumstances."

I wish this post wasn't this dead. But, then again, there is not much to talk about at this point. Still, let's see if I can get a discussion going - to pass the time :-) .

As far as I know the chances of getting an offer are about 36%. That's not at all bad. Then there is about a 50% chance that an offer-holder will actually meet the conditions of the offer and accept it. The chances were about 7% for my LLB so it seems that the math is not that bad. But I suppose that the vast majority of applications will be really good given that most of the applicants are well on their way to get a First/have a First.

The chances to obtain a Gates Cambridge Scholarship are about 1,5% for non-UK non-US applicants. I guess that's the end of that :-D. At least the chances are slightly higher to get an interview. That would be fun.

Have you guys applied for the Gates Scholarship? Also, I wonder, is there anyone who actually did not tick the box that they want to be considered for funding? :-) Do you think that there is anything which may help your chances? Or anything which can hurt you? (Not looking for specifics! Honestly just trying not to go nuts till March).

There goes my pathetic attempt at starting a discussion. Don't leave me hanging!

I didn't tick the box for funding- but i don't think funding has any effect whatsoever on their consideration of someone's application.
Also, i agree with you calculation for chances of getting in- but at this point i am just losing it since the 15th of March has passed and we are still hanging in the #DClimbo

That's just too close to plagiarism with that one incomplete '[/quote'. That's my post from about two months ago.

No, I think you're safe. I've asked around about this and LegalLife (a former LLM student) assured me that the processes for academic and financial aspects of our apps are strictly separate. Good for you though not having to tick that box!

Still at DC here. Hoping to get in but partially wishing that they give 'my' potential place to one of you guys! I would just hate having to choose BCL over their offer, an offer I have been hoping for for months on end. Doesn't seem right.

This isn't entirely correct:

See their website: "However, many departments and faculties combine their funding and admission procedures, so decisions to recommend admission to the Board of Graduate Studies may be made in conjunction with awarding of studentships. If the Board offers admission, the taking up of the studentship depends on all other conditions of the offer being met" ()

I inquired on this point and they said that the departmental consideration is need blind, but the degree committees assessment may not necessarily be need blind.

Seems like things started moving, I just got BoGSed! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

Does anyone know what this means at this point though? Can one still get rejected after being BoGSed at this stage or does this imply an offer being made in foreseeable future?

Also, this is my first post after being actively passive for the last couple of months. Huge thanks to everyone for making me laugh time and time again through this ridiculous process.

Let me clarify. The only time when your admission and funding decisions are taken together is when your application was for a funded place like it occurs in some sciences. That is why it is important to always refer to your department rather than general university guidelines. The first time I was admitted to Cambridge, it was without funding of any sort. The next time, it was admission first and 2 months later, funding appeared.

The two processes are distinct from each other at the Faculty of Law as it does not offer funded research places like it is for STEM.
