Hi, just thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone has heard anything from Cambridge yet? Apparently admission results will start to trickle in from the end of January but I'm not sure if that is correct. I'd like to know soon!
Cambridge 08: Anyone heard yet?

Going on posts from previous years, I think Cambridge will be one of the last schools to give a response. Some people have waited as late as May.

sydneycat-
Going from previous posts - It would appear that we can expect the first round of admission letters within a few weeks, but the last rounds are several months away.
That being said - I too am curious if anyone has received any information. I certainly haven't.
By the way, I'm from the U.S. (high in my class from a Tier 4 school).

Looking at this post:
http://www.llm-guide.com/board/24683
The first decisions appeared early February, then the process continued for a long time afterwards.

Thanks. I'm just getting impatient!
Hopefully February is more the correct time to hear than May. I think I would totally freak out if I had to wait that long. That said, Oxford doesn't let people know until the end of March right?

back in 2006, Cantab didn't send out most of its offers until April/May. A few trickled out in February, but not many.

Prior to applying I read the posts from prior years and noted that the first offers started coming out in February. I'm sure at the time I appreciated as well that the vast majority came afterwards, but since then selective memory kicked in and I set "February" in my head as D-day. Or rather, D-Month.
I think I'm going to just try and forget about it for a while, though, if we might be looking at March.
At any rate, hey everyone!

I applied for the Cambridge LLM some years back and can vouch for the fact that notifications were still being sent out as late as May.
That being said I'm fairly certain outstanding applicants can count on hearing sooner rather than later. By the time May arrived my hopes of being accepted had cooled somewhat; and justifiably so as it turned out!
Anyhow, having submitted a stronger application on this occasion, I hope to be meeting all of you later in the year.

Hmmm. I guess February might be a bit ambitious. In the meantime I've just got to stop myself from constantly checking the camsis self service page. Damn their electronic efficiency! It's a good idea but at least with Oxford you know you have to sit there waiting for a letter to arrive so there's nothing you can do but wait! :)

Any Canadian applicants (to Cantab and or Oxon) this time around who care to share their insights?
Posted Feb 02, 2008 18:16
Hey there;
I'm a Canadian applicant to both; I haven't had so much as a confirmation of receipt from Oxford (but I applied right under the wire) and Cambridge still lists me as an 'applicant' online.
As I understand it, Cambridge's early acceptances could go out at the end of February, but that's just an estimate based on previous posters.
Best of luck!

Another Canadian here.
I applied to Cambridge (but not Oxon.) and was just under the 1 December wire. So if *I* hear anything before any of you I would be surprised, and will let you know. (I'm still listed as an "applicant" on Camsis.)

Not to put too fine a point on it, but having trawled through previous posts it would seem that the first notifications were sent out as early as January 30th in 2007. I havent heard anything yet and dearly wish that the process was quicker. Good luck to all.

I am curious what the Canadian GPAs and rankings are (or were, for those who have been accepted). The first-class, second class ranking is somewhat difficult to appreciate.

Based on the catalog of posts from previous years, I think the rough estimate is that a 'first' should be comparable to the top 10% of a given Canadian law school class. The Cambridge website says as much this year as well, which is helpful.

Having gone through the Oxbridge process last year, I'd say that top 10% = first is about right. To answer the inevitable question, I chose Cambridge.
In terms of timing, based on how things went last year (when Cambridge first offers were in about the third week of January), you could hear any time between now and April/May. Oxford was a bit slower off the mark all the way through the process. There were a number of posts on this topic last year if you're morbidly curious.
If you're concerned about particulars (or whether your application arrived!), it's usually easier to call BOGS (or, when the time comes, your college) directly.
Good luck to all.

Thank you to all who provided their input.

In regards to all of the discussion of first class honors, etc., does anyone have an opinion regarding the effect of either:
1. the rank of your law school (I am top 2% from a bottom tier US school). Any ideas on how that effects things?
2. the quality of your undergraduate grades (mine were bad - thus, the low rated law school).

Has anyone applied to MPhil in Criminology at Cambridge? I applied to the programme in Dec but still have not heard from BOGS.

trying to keep this one alive! If you hear anything, please post it. I ask this as decisions had started appearing this time last year. Best wishes,
