U must compare the courses offered by the two colleges. Also, the reputation of a particular college in the country where you choose to work after your LLM is important in deciding the college too.

If your dream is to be in US then I guess an LLM from a US university makes more sense. However, in the other part of the world people are very aware of the reputation of the colleges and am afraid that BU definitely is not as well ranked as Kings.

I too have received a scholarship from Vanderbilt but am very seriously considering to join Kings after discussions with people in the legal fraternity mostly in Asia and Europe, they all suggested that unless I get in one of the top 5-7 universities in US I should not think of giving up my Kings offer, as for me I will be working in this region and never US.

Keep in mind that in Asia and Europe Kings reputation is good.

Though I also know one person who has done his LLM from BU four years back is doing very well! Anyways, its ultimately your personal choice. All the best!!!

Rankings in the US are different than in the UK or anywhere.

The ranking that Kings is part is s****. BU is number 22 competing with schools such Harvard Law, Yale, Berkeley, UT, Vanderbilt, UCLA, Duke and so forth.

The quality of the education in any law school in the US is very much worth it!! People disregard schools in the Top 20 or 30 just because they don't get into top 5?
Kings might be good yes, but I would pick any school in the top 40 in the U.S for Kings College.

Plus, the fact that this person is getting a scholarship makes it even better and worth to attend.
People live with the rankings in their mind, and just because Boston is a top 20 school is automatically disregarded for a school which is a top 10 school in the UK and considering that ranking in the UK, it does not surprise me that Kings that high.

I would still pick, UT, Vanderbilt, BU, GULC, Hastings or whatever it is over any school in the UK.

Just bear in mind that an experience in the U.S is something unique and very much well worth it. Living in London can be nice, but also stressful, expensive, plus the weather sucks and its overated in every manner.

Don't think twice and take Boston.

X dude if you have the same offer from Vand..you should seriously take it.

Nashville is a stunning place and the University is super good.
Not everyone gets a degree from Vanderbilt and a lot of people get an LLM from Kings. But for the sake of it, if you are into rankings and all that stuff than take Kings.

Don't regret in the future, unless you will later to go to the US for an LLM.

I would say KCL is way more prestigious than BU unless you want to work in the States simply because a US law firm would prefer a US education and not because BU is better than KCL.

What did you decide? Are you international or domestic student?
I have a simlar situation. If you have not decided, yet, maybe it will be beneficial to both of us to discuss all pros and cons of each of the universities...

First of all the answer to your question whther I have an offer from Vanderbilt with scholarship? Yes, I do.

Vandy has a very small class size, only 30 seats for LLM so definitely not everybody can get an LLM degree from there.

However, am afraid not everybody, even people who have studied in US think that reputation of Kings is bad at all.

I have been taking opinions of a lot of people especially those in the profession such as lawyers working with international law firms. And mind it, they have all done their LLM from the top 10 colleges in US. They have very categorically told me that unless I make it to top 5-7 schools in US I should not give up my Kings spot.

Everybody knows the reputation of the colleges in US and UK. We all know that UK has very few good colleges for LLM such as Oxford, Cambridge, LSe, Kings and UCL whereas US has a lot of them. I too had applied to 6 colleges in US whereas in UK I applied only to three.

But mind you, the colleges in UK (those I mentioned) are very good and prestigious and not everybody get in there.

Its just a matter of opinion....

I would personally take Vandy over Kings!!!! Like I said earlier, a lot of people can go to the UK to study, but not all can go to the US.

Just take Kings and don't regret in the future. Unless, like I said earlier you can come to the US at a later stage. If I would go with the opinions of other people, I would not have come to the US in the first place.
The ridiculous importance that prestige has, has give rise to so many people in the future relying on a name instead on their capacities, making it sometimes virtually impossible to make an observation on a day by day routine at the office, mainly because they studied at X, Y, and Z and in reality are a piece of crap as professionals.

That of course might not be the case with all but it is with a lot of graduates from top 5 or 10.

Go to the school you want to go.. and f*** the rest.

I just think it depends on where you want to work in the future, either in the States or the UK.

Both unis are greats. Kings has a very good reputation in the UK but also in the US from what I've heard from american lawyers.

Hi thinkerbelle,

I have not decided yet. I am really concerned with the size of the LL.M program at GULC, which is 400 LL.M students. The problem is that I am afraid that such a huge amount of students body would lead to a mess, i.e. nobody will care about nobody, no personal approach. What do you think?

Hello Ostriker,

I read your post. Quite well-weighted position, in my opinion. I have not got a scholarship, so I am missing one of the arguments in favour of BU :). Anyway, thanks for your feedback

Nedless to say that college life in the U.S is something to look forward to!!

Living on campus is a fantastic experince and you meet people from all over the place! It is kind of an embracing experience!!!

I would give up any school with no official campus and go for one with a lively campus!!!! such as Vandy or UT Austin!!!

I can assure you that you will have the time of your life!!!
