Dear All,
Has anyone heard anything from this years AHRC Research Prep or Professional Prep Masters Competitions?
I'd be very grateful for any form of information. I was nominated by Oxford, but have heard nothing since.
All the best to everyone.

Am I right in thinking you have only just been told that you have won funding for the 2008-09 academic year, even though it starts in less than a month?
I was thinking of doing some research next year, but only if I could get funding, but I couldn't wait until that September to possibly be told I hadn't got any and then have to withdraw and be left with an empty year.
Or did you know you had got the funding months and months ago, but only just received the hard funds now?
Thanks

you only find out whether you've got funded at the last minute, well I did.
However, the AHRC is changing its system for 2009/10, so its worth looking at the website.
Also, remember that the AHRC is far from the only source of financial aid for grad students out there. I investigated a number of local grants and trusts aswell, just to be sure.
I was in the same position as you, and couldn't afford to just bank on AHRC. Fortunately though, I got lucky.

Scotland: did you go for the Research Masters Prep one or the professional prep one? I'm the latter.
GRM: You definitely need to have alernative funding sources whilst waiting for AHRC, unless you're VERY confident! I had a bank loan lined up, which thankfully I no longer need!
