You should probably ask a language course teacher... You will need a score of around 6 to 7 in the IELTS, depending on the university.

Hi

My current IELTS level is somewhere between 5.5 and 6. I need to reach 7.5 so I've decided to start working on my English since February. I'm planning to take the IELTS exam twice, August and December '05 quite probably. I'll do this way because am not confident on hitting such a high level at my first attempt.

It could be a wrong plan so, suggestions welcome...

Hope this could be helpful.

Best,

Your plan sounds ok, 6 month may be sufficient. I don't know the IELTS test, but from the Toefl I know there exist TOEFL specific preparing materials, which is a good idea to use. Because there you do not just get your score by a good command of the english language, also test strategy and knowledge about the point system may be usefull.
good luck, r

I'm using Cambridge specific preparing books. A tad expensive but I'm sure it will finally worth the dough they cost me.

Test strategies, easy tricks to save time, how to face writting tasks properly, how is the fearful Speaking part, etc., etc., almost everything is in there. With just some good luck and keeping my nerves under control, it shouldn't be so difficult to hit that bl**dy 7 level.

Cheers,

Dear Bahar I just recieved my IELTS score 7.0 . It's enough for many universities but you need to look specifically. I'm not too happy because some of the Universities require Writing and Reading module not less than 7.0 and i got 7.0 reading and 6.0 writing section.
As for the preparation I believe British Council rep office in your country might provide you with good materials for the preparation. Good Luck

Hi Bahar!
I think that you will need at least two months lessons. Do you have any other english language certificates? The IELTS test is a bit tricky... It isnt very difficult but it is very quick. You dont have any time to think for your answers!

Tucznick (sorry for possible mistakes)!
If you need more than 7 why dont you try the reassessment? For example, I got 6.5 at first, then I applied for a reassessment of three of my papers and now the overall grade has changed to 7. I had many doubts about my score to writing and speaking papers and they changed my grade in the speaking. I paid 90 euros which are going to be refunded now that the grade has changed. Good luck!

Hi

The official IELTS website also suggests that:

"Candidates who are worried that their scores may not accurately reflect the quality of their performance are entitled to apply to their test centre for a partial or full re-mark. There is a charge for this service, normally around two thirds of the test fee depending on the test centre involved, though the charge will be refunded if the result is subsequently awarded a higher band score."

Hi everybody,
I'm a French student and I have applied to the UCL, King's and QM European Law Programmes. I would like to know if the Admission Board is very strict concerning the TOEFL score. In fact, these Universities demand to their future students to get a global score of 267/300 and 5/6 to the essay. I only got 260/300? Should I retake the TOEFL for 7 points?
Thanks.
