Hey!
I was wondering wether there is a difference between the SoP and the PS? I have read some samples of each, but there seems to be a bit inconsistency among the students regarding my question..
Another observation I have made while reading the samples is that the US-samples tend to be more personal than those applying for UK uni. The US-samples are often focused on a more or less tragic life event, that is supposed to show a great character of strength of the student (a bit cliche if you ask me..) to have overcomed, and then only in the last paragaph of the statement is the law scholl mentioned llike: "I will use this strengt to further succeed in law school while making a difference" or something. Is this normal for UK applications as well, or are you supposed to be a bit more conservative and formal, in the sense of writing more about your studying and making a career i law?
What do you think - is there a real difference between the SoP and PS, and is there a difference between respectively the SoP and PS in US and UK?
Very thankful for any answers!
Best regards

Anyone? I know most of you are well occupied with all the waiting for the admission decisions, but I would very much appreciate any thoughts around this!
And while I'm at it - does anyone know of a good website where there is samples of SoP? I have found tons of personal statements, bur practically no SoP samples.. And yes - I have tried to google it!;)

As far as I know, A SOP and a PS are the same thing under different names. As far as I remember, I submitted a PS for Cam and a SOP for Ox, but both were pretty similar.
The US approach is not really suitable for a UK LLM application and those available on the internet can confuse matters. As you suggest, the US statement tends to be an exaggeration of how the particular LLM will help me 'create world peace' or 'form democracy in the corrupted state of...' etc while UK schools expect you to be a bit more pragmatic and grounded about it all. Not to say you shouldn't include how the LLM will help you fulfill ambitions, but I wouldn't pretend it will help you become the next nobel peace prize winner! lol.
That being said, I understand there are some differences between the perceived audience of the LLM in the UK and US which may work to explain the contrasting approaches.
