Hi guys, I'm starting the LLM International Law at Edinburgh in september and wanted to prepare myself a little better by doing some reading over the summer. Could you reccomend a book or two that could serve as a perfect introduction to international law? I was thinking Akehurst but the current edition is probably a little dated, do people still use it?

I would recommend:

- Martin Dixon's "Textbook on International law" (whichever edition is the newest) - Oxford University Press

- "International Law" by Malcolm Evans - Oxford University Press.

I can also recommend the book by Malcolm Evans, it gives you a really good overview of international law. I don't know if there's an uptodate issue out there but it's a very good starting point and will answer some of your general questions.

Also Antonio Cassese and Ian Brownlie, in General International Law.
