HI.....

I am a student from India. I am pursuing my LL.B(Hons.), from India. This is a five year integrated course at the undergraduate level, and I am currently in my 4th year of study. I will be completing my course by June 2012.

I plan to apply to a few universities for my LL.M. I am planning to apply to Yale and London School of Economics....

Please do guide me on the process for applying and also as to when must i start applying?

I  also intend to achieve some scholarship...please tell me as to when should I apply for scholarships and what are the requirements?

Thankyou.....

Hey,

If you are applying for a course starting september 2012, PLEASE apply to Fulbright scholarship right away. The applications are open sometime now and the deadline for submission is July 2011. Yes, it opens a year ahead of the course and many miss the deadline because of this reason. You can think of colleges and other concerns after you apply to Fulbright. Most other scholarship programs are in the picture only much later in the application process.

In my opinion, applying soon after you finish law school may not be the best thing to do since it will be like a 6th yr of law school and may not add as much value to you (as a law academician - I assume you are interested in academics since u r looking at Yale). This is not just my opinion but is seconded by almost every person I have spoken to about my LLM admission. It would be great if you gave yourself a good year or two of work experience since this not only broadens your perspective about law and gives you a practical perspective to approaching legal studies but also tremendously contributes to your LLM application. If I am not wrong, some universities such as Stanford expressly mention that 2 years of work experience is preferred.

In any case, if you are interested to know more about application specifically to Yale and LSE, I will be happy to help. Please PM me and we can take this forward.
