LSAC transcript - LLM in USA

Ordonez

Hi everyone,

I am completing my applications on the LSAC website for LLMs in US universities. Regarding transcripts, I understand that I need to send a form to my university so that they can mail my transcripts to LSAC. Is this correct ?

The form states: "Original (native) language documents must be accompanied by complete, word-for-word English translations inthe same format as the original language documents."

There is no way that the administration of my French university will translate my transcripts into English. Am I supposed to do the translation, send it to my university who will send it to LSAC?

Thanks for your help !

Hi Ordonez,

correct, you need to send the LSAC transcript request form (TRF) to your university. Your university should then provide transcripts and TRF directly to LSAC as per steps stated within the TRF.

I suggest asking your university whether they can perform the translation. In case your university does not provide for it, reach out to LSAC to understand whether you can instruct a third party for translation and whether the translated document needs to be sent by the university directly.

My school provided English translations, but I did a short certificate course with another school and they would not. I reached out to LSAC and they told me I can provide the translated document myself via email. Worked like a charm, but I suggest you confirm with them first.

All the best
Marco

Hi Marco,

Thanks for your reply.

Am I a bit short on time in your opinion ?

I made the decision to do an LLM next year just recently and am still in the process of applying. As you can see, my faculty have not even sent my transcripts to LSAC yet. I feel like most applicants finished their applications weeks ago, which worries me a bit.

I got the transcripts done in a very early stage already, since it's out of my control (but that may be just me I guess).

I don't know your deadline, but it might not hurt to friendly remind your university to kindly send the transcripts to LSAC in accordance with the TRF instructions, since otherwise you might not be able to apply within the deadline.

Thanks Marc.
The university where I did my 4th and 5th year of law (my Master's degree) sent the transcripts.
However, the university where I obtained my bachelor's degree is not answering my e-mails and I can't get them on the phone.
The first deadline is December 15, which is quite short given that they have to send them from Europe.
Do you think I will be able to apply with only the statements from my last two years of law schoo (Master degree) ?
I know that in France this wouldn't be a big issue, as the Masters years are much more important, but I fear this will be the case for LLMs.

Hey Ordonez,

In general the requirement is clear: provide transcripts for anything above high school, and that includes the bachelor's degree. I have not yet come across any exception on that.

You might want to reach out to the law school's you are applying to, so they understand what you are struggling with currently. Also, I would do anything to get those transcripts. I just can't imagine a University not reacting to such a request. If possible consider a visit to your University where you obtained the Bachelor's degree or any channel to reach the Dean directly.

All the best.
