LLM in International Law?

I'm a law student in a university here in the Philippines and I'm stuck here in these tropical isles for the first quarter of my life (assuming that I'll live for a hundred years) without having any opportunity to travel abroad. @_@.

Since childhood, I've had recurrent dreams of travelling overseas. But believe it or not, I applied for law school because I want to stay in this country and change its legal system for good. However, as the years passed by, I've realized that this is definitely very impossible to achieve so I'm beginning to remember what I actually wanted in the first place: to travel. I could say that it's already impossible to quit law school so I have few cards left in my deck: opt for International Arbitration or go for International Law.

Last Monday, we've had the usual Public International Law class, our second meeting to be precise. Weeks before the school year started, I was quite certain that I would not enjoy this subject because of all the politics that are involved. But it turns out that I was wrong, I enjoyed the class! I love it! And now, I am planning to specialize on it!

I haven't really thought about pursuing further studies after law school. But now, I'm a bit interested in taking up LLM in International Law. However, I have very little knowledge on the matter and I don't know yet where to begin and what I need to do in the next couple of years so I can increase my chances of getting admitted in one good school (probably Yale or The Hague) with a scholarship grant.

Travelling is one reason why I want to specialize on International Law but there are other reasons why I want to take an LLM in International Law: (1) I want to write a scholarly work (or what you may call it) that could contribute to the development of international law; (2) I want to know more how the various nations in the world interplay with one another; (3) I want to work for UN or other international orgs; and (4) I just want to be involved in the international field!

By the way, for everyone's knowledge, I've only been thinking about this since Monday so I have very very little knowledge about LLMs. I hope you guys would consider this in replying to this thread. :)

You should also contemplate about the area you want to work in later on - in your professional career.

International Law is not such a prospering and promising realm for job starters. There are some jobs in international law firms, administration, organisations and so on. But the market for international commercial lawyers is much bigger.
