I am in practice for a few years in Greece and looking for a shipping/commercial programme to go to in 2016. I have been recommended by my boss and a few of our clients LLM at Swansea. I got very good feedback from this site about Swansea and when 4-5 of their teachers came to Pireus for a Conference I was very impressed with them (sharp and contemporary) Anyone has personal experience or recommendation for me?

if I may say so that will be an excellent choice! I did my LLM at Swansea and it was a very good experience in terms of teaching and there was a great social side to it as well! The programme and teachers are so connected with the market that you get benefits afterwards in addition to be taught in a practical manner. My humble advice- go for it!!!! You willnot regret it! Do not be drawn into things like league tables etc- Almost all league tables relate to undergraduate data and can be misleading. Swansea has a good reputation in commercial and maritime law and offer a very good teaching/learning opportunity.

Hello christinabakori, I also heard of Southampton and City University London that offer good programs in maritime law.

Thank you Ben
I have been looking into this and various programmes for a while but considering the staff teaching on these courses, views of employers (I have been told a lot not to judge places with the data from 1980s and 1990s but to be open minded about changes that took place in personnel etc in the last decade or so) and from what I hear from current and past students (and I talked to several current and past from all these universities) I am inclined at this stage to go with Swansea. I shall send an application in soon.
Best and thank you all who responded publicly and privately.

Hola
For full disclosure reasons, I am a Swansea graduate. I also decided to go to Swansea after consulting people from the shipping industry, who highly recommended Swansea as the best place for maritime law. They formed their opinion by looking at the quality of Swansea graduates thay have employed over the years. I have to say that it was the right decision and I am so happy for it! The lecturers were excellent explaining us also the practical aspects of shipping law. I found that particular useful when starting working. The teachers were also so approachable and always happy to help us. Thay also care about our employability and prepare us for the real work after graduation. I found the employability, lectures, trips and carreers fair very useful for establishing links which will help us to get internships and finally a good job!
Swansea is therefore highly recommended!

I do agree with both Kosta and marinaespana. For purposes of full disclosure, I also did my LLM at Swansea and I now hold a very good job in a maritime law firm, which I would not have been offered without my Swansea LLM. Teaching was practical and enabled me to see how the industry works. Talking to employers, I can see how much thay respect the Swansea LLm degrees and that they prefer Swansea graduates because they are very well pepared. And it is not only the lecturers and the modules which make Swansea distinct. It is also the overall experience and the extra-curricular activities, such as mooting training, networking events, guest lectures, visits to London that give you an all rounded educational experience.
If I had to chose again, I would opt in for Swansea as it has been a milestone to my professional career, as well as personal development!

Dear both
I was a student at Swansea- average age around 24-28 I would say - so 30 is certainly not too old!
which LLM- they allow you to make a selection or change your selection 2 weeks after teaching starts so do not worry - I did Commercial and Maritime Law- but it all depends where you targeting to go after graduating!
It is a good LLM and environment at Swansea!
