There are 2 deadlines: in november and january and then a formal statement regarding admission will be sent to you by the UCIHL within 6 weeks after the application deadline. I just wanted to know if the 6 weeks counts from january no matter if you apply before the first deadline or if that depends. If you have knowledge about the procedures of application/admission and there're some tips u could give me, it would help me some much :)
thanks

Hi grisselle, I think you should get a reply six weeks after each deadline, i.e if you apply by 30th November, you should get a response by mid January. I am appliyng to UCHIL and will send my application next month ( by then it will be known as Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights) but I am also interested in the Masters offered by IHE. Trouble is I dont know if I can apply to both schools since UCIHL is run by IHE,what do you think? anyone with any thoughts on this?Eventually its going to be one of the two but I want to get admitted to both then I can decide.

Thanks Petra :) I will also send my application next month. I think that u can apply for both since Hei is a supporter of UCIHL, like the University of Geneve and others INstitutes. What other information can u share with me about UCIHL??

I think it is great for International Humanitarian Law. The job prospects are pretty bright since it is well known and enjoys a lot of support from other institutions in Geneva. I am a bit worried though coz they got many applications last year and selection seems to be very competitive. I will apply to both UCHIL nad IHE, eventually it will come down to the scholarships I get.

Hope that both of us wil be admitted :)
And what do u think about the programme of Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Organisations, International Criminal Law and Crime Preventionthat the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) offers??

Seems we have the same interests. I had wanted to apply there too but they did not offer the LLM in 2007-2008. They said we keep checking the website, if it is offered next year, I will make the application, but right now I am leaning towards UCHIL and IHE. Where are you from Grisselle27? I am from Africa, Kenya.

I will make an application too, but we have to keep checking the website, but my first option is UCHIL. I'm from Panama, Central America :)

hey there, I only recently found out about the the academy (formerly university centre), I have an LLB from Canadian law school. I was called to the bar and worked for a year after in Toronto. I am considering applying to LL.M. programs. THis program sounds phenomenal, but I was wondering if any of you know of any international rankings and how it stands there? Do you think it would open doors to NGO's and human rights organizations in Europe? I worked in the area of refugee law in Canada and I think the program would be very relevant to my career prospects back home, but I am not sure if it's relevant to career in Europe. I might be moving to Europe eventually, but don't want to do a law degree in civil law as another 5 years of study is too much and I besides English I only have intermediate level of German, so it's not much. Also, do you know if for the humanitarian law program at the Academy, an applicant needs to outline proposed study plan of any sort. It would seem premature, but I am not sure what the practice is.
thanks,
tanya

Hi everyone!! Pay and TT...about the dealine, you have to send your application before january 31st 2008. About the quality, reputation and job prospect, I have tried to get in touch with graduates and I'm waiting for their response, but to me it seems that the programme could open the doors for international organizations, NGOs' etc, and besides, the Academy is in Geneva where there's a lot of Institutes, I think that this give us many chances, so good look and keep in contact, we can share some info.

Hi Griselle!
I managed to get in touch with one graduate. She wrote me one email, but did not follow up. SHe said the program was good, but it was not perfect, because every year they try to implement something new and so in a way it's trial and error. But overall she was very impressed. She did not elaborate about job prospects after. I contacted the academy with some administrative questions. They menioned that they provide some contacts to help you to network, including organizations and former students, but overall it looks like you are on your own in terms of prospects after the program. But if you find out something else, please do share it. THere is very limited information, and I wish I new more graduates. I still haven't applied, as I want to try to apply for scholarships and I am still waiting for my reference letters.

Hi TT, it seems to be in that way, but what she said doesn't sound bad. There are some people are register here that were enroll for this academy year (2007/2008), I'll try to contact them. About scholarship, are you applying for the one that the Academy offers??

Hi Pay!!! Well I haven't write my motivation letter, I have a little idea about what to write thanks to a guy name Wade, and I'm willing to help. You could check it here
http://www.llm-guide.com/board/35619
He told me that we should provide some background information about ourselve (why are you applying to the program, where you are from, where you completed your law degree, strengths and possible limitations or weaknesses, state your goals and how that particular program will help you achieve such goals, etc.). If you find a sample letter please share it with me. Hope that this information is useful for you. :)
