I have been offered a place by MIPLC and Edinburgh school of law. im still undecided, what would you suggest me to do guys?
Posted May 24, 2010 14:02
I think it might be better to ask some graduate - they should know better, but from what I heard MIPLC provides the high quality education.

I heard the same about the MIPLC, but so far it has been impossible to share opinions with graduates. MIPLC has provided me only a couple of contacts and i got no response to my enquiries.
basically i want to know if the program is worth the money it requires.

Hey guys. I have only recently learned of this program (MIPLC) and am very impressed; it sounds brilliant. It surely looks like one of the premier places to study IP law. I am strongly considering applying and since some of you have already been admitted; could I ask some questions? Like, first, when is the deadline and where are the applications? lol Do you guys know how competitive admission is? I know the basic prerequisites but can you guys tell me anything more on why you think you were admitted, ie what made your applications stand out?
For instance, I want to apply but I have no training in IP law; I am only looking to get into it now. I have two first class degrees (BA Law and an Hons Degree in Philosophy). The only relevant experience I have, I guess, is teaching; I have tutored in law and in philosophy; plus I co-lectured a module in philosophy. Do you guys think this will suffice?
I would love to find out more - also where you guys are from. I am from South Africa at Stellenbosch University. It is cool that many of my professors work quite closely with Max Planck and have co-authored numerous papers with its director (Prof Zimmerman) who was here last year to receive an honorary doctorate from my university. Anyways - looking forward to comments; would also be cool to be friends on facebook so that we can talk more.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone. I stumbled across this thread when I was browsing the LLM. Guide and I consider it my duty to reply. I am a MIPLC alumnus. I hold a director position at an international IP organisation and am therefore very much involved in the IP community. I can fully recommend the MIPLC program despite the high tuition fees. Not only does MIPLC have the most IP focused curriculum, it also has by far the best faculty, comprising of the best IP specialists in its field from all over the world. Not to forget that the facilities are excellent, classrooms and private offices located at the Max Planck Institute for IP law premises, giving access to the biggest IP library in Europe.
If you are serious in trying to get the very best IP LL.M available, I think that its difficult to match MIPLC. Finally, it is my perception that the international IP community has recognised MIPLC as the forerunner in IP law education in Europe.
I wish all of you that have been accepted good luck.
Best regards,
MA

I am very interested in attending MIPLC in the 2011/12 school year. Can some of you, particularly any of you that are American, share/pm your experiences with the application process, as well as your academic credentials that got you admitted?
I just want to make sure that I have a good shot at getting in. I have an electrical engineering degree from the University of Washington (3.6 gpa), and will be graduating cum laude from Seattle University School of Law. I have two years of engineering experience and a variety of summer legal work experiences, mostly IP related.
Also, if any of you have graduated from MIPLC, I would love to hear about any of the professional opportunities that were available after graduation.
Thoughts?

Hi!
I can just share what I did. I emailed the program coordinator julia.pracht@miplc.de, with my CV attached, briefly describing my prof & edu background and asking if I might qualified for the program. I got a tentative positive feedback, completed my application and now I am in.
I wish I could also learn more about the professional opportunities that are available after graduation, especially since I come from other than law background and can see me more in the field of IP management.
Any suggestions?
