Hello everyone!
I come from Greece. I am graduate student of Political Science and I'm thinking of applying for a LLM in Maritime Law for September 2012. The reason I'm writing here is I would like to give some suggestions about which school to apply for. Until now, I have as option Swansea University and Southampton.
What are your opinions/suggestions for these and other Universities? and what about the career opportunities??
Thanks for your help

I amnot sure whether one can say anymore that the reputation of Southampton is better than Swansea- that was possibly the case 7-8 years ago but nowadays the sector employs more and more Swansea graduates, there is more visibility in terms of international links and links with practice and in terms of research excellence these two law schools scored almost the same rating- I did my LLM in Swansea by the way a number of years ago and what I hear is that the team has got stronger and stronger whilst in the same period Southampton lost key players like Professor Gasskell and ProfessorDebatista and some of the professors on their web-site never teach or teach minimal number of classes! Let us not get stuck to history or what you hear from guys who did their LLMs 20 years ago.

I m from Greece and im speaking about the reputation of these 2 universities in greece and particularly in pireus! i know that swansea is better from southampton, i already expressed that, but in greece its more likely to know southampton than swansea..i agree with what u said about the current situation of these 2 universities..

Bill and Kosta, the British Council had a seminar for the applications in universities of UK last week. I went to the careers office toget some guidance about these 2 universities. Her opinion was that Southampton is the best choice because of reputation. I am very confused...

my guess is that you talked to someone at the Career Office who has not kept herself updated what is happening in the last 10 years. As Bill says "Pireus says Swansea' I tell you that the rest of the world mainly UK says "Swansea'- it is up to you really. My advice is that you go along with what the practitioners and market think not what an office person says !
All the best
