MA in Law Fribourg, info?

I'm very interested in doing the 90 credit MA in Law at Fribourg and I was wondering if anyone had any experience in studying it, or in studying at Fribourg? So far as I can see it wouldn't be enough on its own to let me practice law in Fribourg but maybe with extra credits I could, does anyone know?

Thanks in advance for any replies! :)

The course page can be found here http://www.unifr.ch/ius/fr/etudier/offre_d_etudes/master/mals

Hi,

I can't really help you about MALS (Master for non-lawyers, right?), but I've learned in Fribourg my BLaw and my MLaw, so maybe I can help you with some information about Fribourg.

That's great, thanks a lot! And yes the MALS, is for non or foreign laywers. I was wondering whether the university good? Are the lecturers helpful and is the library well stocked? Are there many international students? Is it easy to find somewhere to live in Fribourg and is it cheap or expensive? Is there much to do in Fribourg itself or the surrounding areas?

Apologies for all the questions!

Hi,

I am not Swiss no more, and I liked a lot studying at Fribourg University.

Yes, the library is well stocked, moreover, you can order books from other University libraries in Switzerland. You have a lot of computers with free internet access, and you can work in the library.

The life in Switzerland is generally very expensive, but Fribourg is a very good choice comparing to Geneva or Zurich. In these cities, and in Lausanne too, you spend a year before you find a very expensive appartement. And as Fribourg is a student town (25% of inhabitants are students), you can find a flat/room easily. For a room, you will pay something like 450-550 CHF, and for a studio, something like 700-900 CHF. My studio was 550 CHF only, but I found it myself, without an agency.

For the things to do, it depends if you come from a big city or from a little town. Fribourg is a small town (40'000 people). There are many opportunities to do sport (free sport at the University, more than 30 different sports), to eat (very good restaurants), to go to the bowling or to the cinema (big cinema with 10 rooms), there is a laser-game, there are many festivals in summer (Jazz, folklore, open-air cinema), there are swimming pools and a skating rink. But if you want to do something other, Fribourg is not far from big cities - Geneva/Zurich - only 1h30 by train, Lausanne/Bern - 30 min by train.

Also, if you come to Fribourg University, you can learn foreign languages for free (Italian, German, English, French). You just need to be registered at the University and to take a test two week before the beginning of semester.

I hope I helped you with all this information. If you have more questions, don't hesitate.
