Hey Laurent delighted to be acquainted with you. I am taking LLM International & European Law (PIL). I have not found a place yet. Still on the accommodations office waiting list! I will arrive on 30th. How did you find your flat? Do you know anyone looking to share an apartment I don't mind sharing one with others! Write back.

yes, amsterdam is a hell to find something and i think you're not the only one in this case. i spent a lot of time looking for a flat on several websites : altijdwonen, directwonen, woninghuren, kamernet and asva (all are .nl). i finally found something on asva, luckily i got picked up first in a "lottery". what i can tell you is that it's way easier if you're there : it enables you to react fast to an announcement you find in a supermarket for example, or to visit a flat as soon as a landlord or an agency calls you. but taking my example, even if you get something it might not be the end : i have to do some works in my flat (walls and floor !) and buy a second hand fridge, etc...
i don't know anybody looking for a roommate directly but this morning i read emails from one of our future mates who finally created a yahoo group for those still roofless. this may help also, did you get it ?
good luck !

Hey Laurent,
Appriciate the information, I have been thinking that as you suggested it is easier to get a flat when in the city rather than out. No stress I am not in a hurry to secure a place now. Also as you said it is not going may not be end once one finds a place - other things needs to be done! I have received the email regarding those still roofless.Anyways enough of housing for the moment ;-) are you attending introduction day next Friday?

Hey Laurent you seem prety busy with house furnishing! I gather you are already in Amsterdam since you are buying a fridge I don't suppose you intend to bring that from France ;-) I am packing my things not much but important things I don't want to forget behind. How much is your rent? and how far is your place from the university?
Posted Aug 24, 2007 13:13
actually i'm still in france and will bring all my stuff from there ! i will explain u this later, it's a bit weird. my rent is 400/month (we are two, so very cheap) but my contract is only of 6 months (minimum, it's very likely that i can stay for the year) and i have some extra costs. i'm at the beginning of slotervaart, near the ring, so about 15 min by bike from the uni. quite happy with it but i won't have a relaxed first week with all the things to do !

hello guys! I am applying for LLM EU&Int. Law to UvA too. But I would like to start in February, that is why I am applying that late. Does anybody know anything about February start? I would like to hear any information. However I wrote several e-mails to UvA about Feb. start and I recieved only 2 answers. And they were different- one said: "There is no problem to start in feb." and the other: "feb. start is only possible in exeptional cases". Very confusing!
And one more thing- is there anyone who was not admitted? What grades do you need?
Thank you very much!

Hello Domina, I believe you should apply now even though you want to be admitted for february start. I would not wait till later if I were you. As for Feb start I don't know anything and UvA's response regarding your emails, I am not surprised because they are busy (under staffed) with students who are starting in September and their administration work is lets just say less competent, I've seen better! I think if you have 2:2 (UK system) you will get accepted I believe with even a 3rd they may admit you. I would apply now rather than later if I were you then they may be able to deal with your application in due course!. I can keep you updated once I start in September if you have further queries. I trust this is helpfull.

I don't get that UK grade system!
Can u give me another example, like on a 0-20 grade scale?!
I plan to finish my degree in Portugal this year - 4 year sorta bachelor - and then move to Holland to continue my studies. My first option is Utrecht, and my second option is uVa, but I am not sure about the minimum grades they require :)
Tks for helping me!
