Good EU law schools/ for a 22 year old would a specialist LLM restrict career options?

Okay, I have m y British and Canadian lists done. Now for the EU. I wonder if anyone can suggest good schools from the EU?

How do KU Leuven and Utrecht rate?

Given the others (Leiden, Stockholm, Oslo, Lund, Helsinki) are specialist (mostly public international law and human rights) are there any good EU universities that offer a solid GENERAL LLM?

Any in France or Germany?

I may do PIL or human rights but would this be restricting if my career direction changes and I decide I want to work for a law firm rather than in foreign affairs? Can anyone please address this issue? If I do a specialist degree, will it restrict my career options if my career direction changes? Or, is an LLM (in human rights) from Lund, for example, held in high regard by corporate law firms for developing skills etc?

Any responses much appreciated.

Sorry, language of instruction is English. Also, would you suggest I do a general LLM? Or, does it not really matter if I specialise? So long as I have an LLM?

Many thanks.

Also, how is the reputation of the Uppsala LLM? How does it compare to Lund, Stockholm and Oslo? What about Leuven and Utrecht reputation wise?

Cappa, when are you plannning to matriculate? Seems like you're taking a bit long on deciding on your target schools. Don't froget the deadlines!! :)

Re your specialist question, I believe that an LLM from a renowed institution will not restrict future career options but can only have the effect of boosting your stature.

Lawfirm-wise, it may be that you wil be assigned to a department related to your specialization but many will allow you to transfer to another department if it turns out that the latter is more suited to your talents.

At 22 I would suggest that you obtain work expreience first before getting your llm degree. You have the luxury of time, use it to learn, prove yourself and even make mistakes in the practice of law! In my case, it was practice that has led me to decide the specialization that i'm targeting right now. However, I do recognize that there are many ways to skin a cat.

Good luck.
