Hey i also received the email today...thank god so relieved...
@Poppet ADH is my #1 choice too i dont know if ill make it though and even if i do the funding is a huge problem its super expensive.
I also wanted to apply to Leiden and Utretch but havent still considering it though as the deadline is april.
I have conditional offers from Essex and SOAS. I could not apply to other schools as i missed the deadline because of some personal issues.
Lets see what happens
Good luck to all - april 4th is really close

Funding really concerns me too. I'd always figured I would put myself into debt to go to ADH because I wanted the program so badly, but I've received funding from LSE so I might end up going there instead. But ADH is still the dream. Crossing our fingers that they are generous with their funding packages...?

Nothing for me.... I am checking my mail every minute. I have not applied anywhere else.

YIKES.
Waitlisted!
It never even occurred to me that there would be a waitlist. I expected an outright reject or a lucky admission.
Has anyone received a positive response yet?

I have been wait listed as well
Now this is making me even more nervous.
I am sorry to hear about those who were rejected :(
I wish they could accept more students!

There is an expression that timing is everything. The name of the game is to apply as early as possible due to the "rolling admissions" factor. Last year, rolling admissions commenced Nov. 17, 2009 and as a matter of strategy, a friend applied minutes after midnight of Nov. 17th. At that stage, if you are a decent applicant, you will be "in" as was my friend, whereas if you wait until ALL your competitors have applied, it is a totally different game for acceptance. My friend ultimately accepted U of Geneva for the M.D.I.E. (Masters of International & European Law) because she is receiving the same foundation but with the added dimesnion of business law, thereby making herself more marketable to a wider audience.

Early applications only work in the case of, like you said, rolling admissions. ADH Geneva does not run on rolling admissions.
And for the record, so that other potential applicants are not confused, your friend is not getting the same foundation in MDIE as ADH, they are different programs. ADH Geneva is an extremely specialized school with a focus on human rights during times of peace and war, and that's pretty much it. MDIE focuses more on international public and private law, european law, and other interstate relations during times of peace. The LLM at ADH is far more focused on the legal consequences of war and humanitarian disasters. So she is definitely receiving a degree that applies to a wider audience, but she is not receiving the same education at ADH + the dimension of business law. They are very different programs.
It's too bad this discussion is happening now - It would have been nice to have heard more information from people applying/admitted before the results came out! But a big congrats to those who are in, and my condolences for those who have not been admitted. I am going to keep applying no matter what happens, personally.

You are correct about the difference in programs. My notes indicate it was rolling admissions but apologize for any error on my part. Her strategy was sound on early application as the Academy was her first acceptance by a wide margin.

Did everyone hear one way or another today? I haven't gotten anything... fueling my fear that they lost my app somewhere along the way.

I am in! I am glad, because I put all my hopes in this and did not apply anywhere else. I am sorry for all of you that got rejected. Poppet, I also did not know that there is possibility to be wait listed, but in my admission mail it says that I should confirm my participation rigt away, and if reject it, next person from the list will get it. You applied for french part?
Posted Apr 05, 2011 09:17
Congratulations llmgeneva! I'm happy for you, I know this was your primary goal.
I'm very ambivalent about the waitlist. Sometimes I am very happy and flattered, sometimes I am devastated.
Unfortunately, I always thought that any French applicants would be so much more qualified and capable than I am, so I didn't apply for the French program - without thinking that there are probably less applicants for the French program than there are for the English one. I am fluent in French and in retrospect I probably should have highlighted my ability to do either program, but I really preferred the opportunity to write in English.
Any advice this year's admitted team wants to give will be highly appreciated! I'm going to need it for next year.

poppet what about LSE? are you declining the funded offer from LSE?
Posted Apr 05, 2011 10:37
Poppet, maybe it would be a good thing to tell them now that you are able to to both programmes. As for advice, I really do not know what was crucial for my admission. This is a first time I applied for LLM in a foreign country, and my motivation letter was very personal, but I believe that they all are. I do have a masters degree from my country and practical experience in IHL.
Posted Apr 05, 2011 14:13
@LLM geneva congrats on making it through! I was just wondering what kind of work experience you have in IHL i was hoping that in the one year that i would wait to reapply i could make good use of it

@ Poppet
I am feeling the same way. Sometimes I am really excited that I might still have a chance and sometimes I am really upset over not getting in :/
I am still keeping my fingers crossed though. If I don't get in (which I really, really hope I do!) I am going to apply again next year. Although, I really, really hope I can get in. I wish we could find out our number on the wait list so we had a better idea to know if we even have a shot or not at getting in.
