Sorry for my negative question but however we've to prepare for the worst sometimes. Is it possible to get a job in legal related work after/ during the llm from Canada?
the reason I'm asking this, because I heard it's quite hard to get a job as lawyer as an international student

Hello guys
Sorry for my negative question but however we've to prepare for the worst sometimes. Is it possible to get a job in legal related work after/ during the llm from Canada?

In my opinion, you would need a backup plan for the time after you graduate from CCL UBC and even for after you obtain a desired bar membership.
I researched a lot on this topic and came to conclusion that with the current situation with articling positions it could take a long time to get a position even if you are lucky. Which, of course, would not guarantee a later employment as you understand, it is only a bar membership what you will have after articling. They have been making some improvements offering articling through universities though (last time I checked Ryerson U in Toronto was working on the program).
You might have also heard the rumors about the very high % of Canadian JDs doing survival jobs while waiting for their articling. I am not sure if the rate is correct but I have heard about the problems with articling a lot.
If this is true, than in this market even with a JD from Canada simply being a non-native speaker would be already a disadvantage. Not to mention that the CCL LLM is basically a preparation for an NCA equivalence exam just in a form of graduate degree.
By the way, doing an LLM in CCL is not the only option to gather credits towards NCA evaluation. It would be cheaper to do the online course offered by Osgoode. In Ontario they even offer a bursary for immigrants taking certain bridging courses NCA courses being among them.
May be I am wrong ,but I would also consider doing a specialized LLM on the top of CCL LLM and NCA exam to improve employment opportunities in that field of specialization.
This is, of course, only my personal opinion, I do not have any insider information.
Good luck!

And my online application status hasn't changed from submitted. UBC said that they'd email the decision directly.
Anyone here with a different story?

I will be glad if you could assist me how this program would benefit me and make me eligible to enroll into the Canadian Bar.
I am yet to get myself assessed by the NCA as i am still pursuing my final year LLB (India).
It would be very helpful if any of you guide me by replying to this post.
Thank you!

one thing this LLm could surely make a difference in is building connections with the legal community through the faculty.
I believe people with status in Canada may find it more useful.
It could add some points to an immigration profile if one is planning to immigrate.
