hi - does anyone out there know a lawyer on the NY Board of Law Examiners? Or does anyone know how they decide whether or not you can sit the bar? as in, will they take outside factors into consideration? as in are their regs purposefully subjective to allow them to determine qualifications on a case by case basis? thanks. amber

I'm not sure how subjective they are but I get the feeling they have an idea of which students they'll let sit for the bar based on the law school they attended. I'm guessing once you've evaluated a couple of transcripts from the same school, you have a pretty good idea of what the curriculum consists of and how it measures against a US JD curriculum.
I say this because I called before I submitted my application and the gentleman asked what school I went to and said, "Oh we get tons of applicants from there. You don't have to submit your stuff to be analyzed. Just send us your transcripts and fill out an application to sit for the Bar and we'll let you know if there are any problems." It took a few weeks as opposed to a few months if I'd have gone through the whole process.
This is pure conjecture on my part. Hopefully, someone can provide you with more concrete information as to how they make their decisions.
Good Luck!
