Dear all,

could you please tell me which accelarated / summer LLM programs, currently available in the US, would make me eligible to sit for the New York State Bar Exam?

Thank you for your replies,

I don't think that a summer LLM program is sufficient for the NY bar exam. You need a special amount on classes and I think they changed the rules for LLM students who start with their LLM in 2013. But you will find all information you need here: http://www.nybarexam.org/Foreign/ForeignLegalEducation.htm

Dimagic,

many thanks for your reply.

I know about the increased scrutiny for LLM students. That's why I am on the lookout for an accelarated / summer LLM programs (can be divided into two or more summers) that would match the new criteria of the New York State Bar Exam (or alternatively California State Bar Exam or any other state bar exam available for foreign-trained lawyers).

I have already found two in California and I am still looking for more (making eligible for the NY State Bar Exam, in particular):

1) The Professional LL.M. program at UC Berkeley (http://www.law.berkeley.edu/5659.htm)

"Does the LL.M. program qualify graduates for the California or New York bar exam?

The Academic Year LL.M. program can qualify graduates to take the California or New York bar exam. The Professional LL.M. program can qualify graduates to take the California bar exam. Students should be sure to select courses that will allow them to take the bar exam of their choice, and specific advice will be available to students at orientation."

2) UC Davis School of Law - Summer LL.M. in International Commercial Law (http://www.law.ucdavis.edu/prospective/llm/files/small_law_brochure.pdf)

"Graduates of this program have gone on to sit for the bar examinations in New York and California in order to become U.S. attorneys."

Any other accelarated LLM programs making eligible to sit for a bar exam in the US?

The NY bar exam does not accept LLM degrees obtained during a summer program. Therefore, neither of the summer program LLM programs offered at UC Berkeley or UC Davis will qualify you to sit for the NY bar exam.
