LLM in New Zealand

Hi

I am from india, planning on doing LLM from New Zealand with specialization in Corporate Law. I have done my Chartered Secretary course from India. I also have over 10 years of work experience in corporate law, capital markets, amalgamation

Can anybody give me some idea how i should go about applying for LLM in New Zealand. What are the job prospects there after doing LLM?

Hi Samitalahiri,

I am a lawyer in New Zealand and have recently completed my LLB degree.

The entry requirements for LLM degrees in New Zealand are not onerous. Generally speaking a B average in your LLB (not sure what this equates to in India but is pretty standard here) will get you into the LLM degree at the University of Auckland. You can apply online at www.auckland.ac.nz.

With respect to the LLM itself, this will not qualify to practice law in New Zealand. You would most likely need to take undergraduate courses to satisfy the New Zealand Law Society requirements. Check out these links for more info:

The legal job market here is very tight. I'm not sure how well placed you would be after obtaining an LLM.

Let me know if you need anything further.

Best of luck.

Hi,
I'll be completing my LL.B from India in April. I understand that one can't practise immediately after LLM but it would be great if you could give me some information regarding opportunities in the teaching field or in the law firms there.
Thanks.
