Dear everyone,
I just finished my master degree of commercial law at Deakin univerisity. and i finished my LLB in China. in Australia, LLM is not qualified to be a solicitor, it's difficult for me (a foreigner), to find a job in legal area. but i really want to start my career in this area.

can anyone give me some advice?
many thanks!

Hi,

The best way would be to send your LLB degree for assessment by the relevant authorities in Victoria (I assume you are intending to practise in Victoria since Deakin is there).

Given that China operates on a Civil Law system, they will most probably to undertake an entire LLB/JD degree (less the elective component) - this is what China law graduates are required to do in Queensland (in general). Upon completion of the 'academic' component then you'd have to undertake 1 year articles (witha law firm) or a 6 month Practical Legal Training postgraduate diploma (with a university).

I hope that this helps!

Cheers,
Greg
