I would like to work for a foreign company in China. I have a LLB from New Zealand, but I have no experience and I have not sat the bar. What would be the best way to go about getting a job here? Would it be a good idea to complete a LLM at a Chinese University? Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you should start by learning some chinese and finding an internship in a foreign company/law firm in China.
Maybe you will have to gain experience and/or pass the bar in New Zealand first though.
I don't think an LLM in Chinese law is necessary (or recommended...). It could be useful of course, but it's not like you're going to sit the bar exam in China or work in Chinese once you're there...
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.
Do you have any idea about how to go about getting a internship with a company in China? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question.
Again, thank you for the advice.

For example, I'm from France and I know a way of getting an internship / a job in China is to ask to a French law firm which has an office over there. You usually do an internship in France (6 months) prior to leaving even though it's possible they send you right away (I got lucky). We also have a contract called "VIE" which enables to you go overseas and work for a French company.
I guess someone from New Zealand should advise you on the different opportunities. But I think it's highly unlikely a company sends someone with no experience and no chinese language skill in China...
Good luck.
