Hi All, LLM warriors
I would like to ask some advices
I got accepted by few unis in the east coast, but rejected by Berkeley. For certain reasons, I want to stay in the west coast, precisely in the bay area. So at this moment, I am waiting news from other schools near the bay area, such as: USF and UC Davis (Stanford is out, since I did not apply). I am confident with my credential; I would get an offer from both USF and Davis.
Can anyone give me good advice, which one is better, USF or Davis? In terms of reputation, program, school environment, networking and overall.
I applied for Intellectual property program in USF and International Business law in Davis.
I am not crazy about ranking, but it worth to be considered, also I do not have any plan to stay or find a job in the US after I graduate.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

I got admitted in both USF and Davis.... Currently I am in Davis for Intensive English courses.. I Liked the city because it is small and student community.
Davis, as it is one of UC's, best option for who are seeking excellant school within California
I recommend you to go for it .. I will go for it unless I got admitted in berkeley

Hello,
I am a domestic student born and raised in San Francisco (so I can comment on USF via general knowledge and friends who attended USF Law to obtain their JD), and I completed my undergraduate studies (prior to my JD) at UC Davis (so I can comment on UCD as a whole as well from knowing some law professors and many students there as well).
USF is located in a very nice part of San Francisco, and SF has a large legal base, so you can make great professional contacts there. However, UC Davis is a MUCH better school with a MUCH better reputation. UCD is a Tier 1 school, whereas USF is currently considered a Tier 3 school. UCD has amazing world-reknown professors and scholars, but Davis is actually 1-1 1/2 hours away from the Bay Area. As such, if you are looking for an urban environment, USF can provide that better. Nevertheless, UCD has a wonderful small community that is wholly centered around the university.
Since you are not looking to practice in the US, you do not need the job-related contacts that an education in San Francisco can provide. I would strongly recommend UC Davis over USF strictly because of its strong reputation and the high level of academics it provides.
Needless to say, my friends who have attended USF and UCD are both very happy with the education that they received in the JD program (although I do not know much about the LLM programs at those schools in particular). If I were in your position, I would absolutely chose UC Davis. I had a wonderful experience at UCD for undergrad, and I love the town of Davis (even though I am a city girl, through and through).
Oh, and there is also a free shuttle (or was a few years ago) that goes directly to and from the UC Davis and UC Berkeley campuses, so although Davis is a little far, it is easy to travel back and forth from Davis to the Bay Area.
Best of luck with your decision, and let me know if you have any questions about life in general in either San Francisco, the Bay Area as a whole, or Davis!

Hi, I've been accepted by UC Davis and UIUC JD program. I don't know much about both schools since I'm Chinese. Would you give me some suggestions as to which school I should choose? Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I do not know too much about UIUC's JD program. UC Davis is currently ranked #29, UIUC is ranked #35 for the JD program. UC Davis has been slowly and steadily rising in the ranks the past few years. I do not know about UIUC.
The one thing I can tell you is that they are both strong schools and a JD from either of them will take you very very far in your career.
Both schools are outside their respective near-by cities (UCD's closest city is Sacramento, then the Bay Area; UIUC is probably Indianapolis or Chicago), so in either place, the focus will be on academics.
The one thing I will caution you about is the WEATHER!!! UC Davis is in California with warm and mild weather. UIUC is in Illinois where it can be FREEZING all winter.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. I got 12k/yr from UIUC, but nothing from UC Davis cause Davis doesn't offer any scholarship or financial aid for international students. Considering they are similarly ranked schools, so I'm more likely go for UIUC~
