Hey everyone I am a US Citizen who was raised in Colombia and obtained a Law degree from that country. I have been living in Miami for over 2 years and worked as an immigration paralegal in a mid-size firm with a lot of success with my clients and their immigration approvals. I love this field and I really enjoy working with people and help them to achieve the so called Ämerican Dream".Right now I was accepted at UM for the LLM in comparative law, but I am not sure if that's the best program for me. I've read all the blogs and in conclusion a foreign trained attorney must not pursue the LLM if he really wants to work here; I am not interested in doing the whole career again, nor in applying to well known large law firms in the US; instead I want to start my own immigration practice, once I pass the NY bar and concentrate in Colombian and Venezuelan immigration markets. My concern is that I cannot rely solely on immigration matters, because it's so restricted and the number of international applications have decreased a lot within the past few months due to the economic crisis. What are your advices? I hope anyone can help me out to make this decision, because the univesrity deadline to make the first payment is in june 12. Thanks a lot!!!
