Hi guys,

I am considering applying for an LLM in the US but wondering about the job prospects after. I know that foreign trained lawyers cannot compete with JDs and that LLMs mostly get hired to work for (US) firms in their home countries. Nevertheless, I am thinking about doing an LLM, taking the bar exam and trying to get a job with a law firm in NYC, or as a plan B maybe London.

Could anyone tell me whether my chances of getting hired by an NYC law form are higher if I do an LLM after having obtained a few years of work experience elsewhere, or not? I know some US law schools only take LLM candidates with work experience and US law firms value foreign trained lawyers\' professional networks, on the other hand I have also heard that some US firms prefer entry level associates.

Would it be a realistic possibility to work in London after getting a US LLM (and admission to a US bar)? After taking the required exam of course.

Fyi my profile: I completed a law degree in the Netherlands (unfortunately bar admission is still 3 years of traineeship away), did an exchange at an Ivy league US law school, and am proficient in French and Spanish. I have done some internships with international organizations and worked as a paralegal in several law firms during my studies.

Thanks for any advice you may have.
